Besides, I’ve asked my men to get the best doctor in the city to check on Joey.”

“Are you sure you don’t know how to cure people?” asked Corinne with a sarcastic smile. “Yeah. Why

do you ask?” Jeremy questioned with a raise of his eyebrow.

“Well, I’m pretty sure you’re the only one who can cure Miss Anya’s lovesickness.”

The smile disappeared from Jeremy’s face, replaced by a frown. He could tell Corinne was mocking

him, so he gazed solemnly into her eyes before pulling her into a tight embrace. Stroking her hair, he

said, “I know this is on me…but I promise you I’m only concerned about. their safety and nothing else.”

Corinne fit perfectly against Jeremy’s body. Listening to the rhythmic gentle beating of his heart gave

her a sense of comfort so great that she nearly fell asleep.
