Chapter 783
The Day I Kissed An Older Man
Chapter 783
Corinne shook her head. âIt was no trouble at all. Really, you two are too kind to me,â she said humbly.
Beatrice immediately took a liking to Corinne. âCan I ask you something, Corinne? How old are you?â
âTwenty.â
Beatrice did a quick mental calculation in her head as her fingers moved subtly as if counting
something. âAnd when is your birthday?â
An alarm bell went off inside Corinneâs head. âWhy would she ask me when my birthday is? Could it
beâ¦â
âI donât know when my real birthday is because no one has ever celebrated my birthday after I lost my
mother,â replied Corinne out loud.
The suspicion in Beatriceâs eyes became even stronger. âYou lost your mother when you were young?
Did she die or go somewhere else?â
you
Corinne fell silent. She was not happy with Beatriceâs questions at all. âWhy donât ask yourself that, you
old crow! I wouldnât have lost my mother if you didnât chase my mother out of this house just because of
some rumorsâ¦â
Cedric could not stand seeing Corinne sad, so he nudged Beatriceâs elbow and said, âWhy are you
asking all these questions? Look at how sad youâve made her.â
Beatrice quickly realized how inappropriate she was, so she said, âForgive me, Corinne. You look so
much like someone I know that I canât help but ask those questions. Sorry for making you think of the
pastâ¦â
Corinne smiled calmly. âItâs okay. You didnât mean too anyways.â
Beatrice passed a piece of sliced apple to Corinne. âHere, child. Have a piece of apple. Weâll have a
simple lunch later, and for dinner, Cedric had ordered some fresh food specially flown from overseas. I
can guarantee theyâre all delicious, so please stay for dinner.â
âSure. Donât mind if I do, then.â
âBy the way, Corinne, I heard from my husband that youâll be marrying Jeremy Holden?â
Corinne nodded. âYup.â
âWhat a pity for a nice girl like you to end up with a family like that,â said Beatrice with a frown. âWhy, if
youâre still single, my husband and I can introduce you to some nice boys.â
âSeems like they have a common hobby of setting people up with blind datesâ¦â thought Corinne. She
simply smiled and said, âThank you, but the Holdens actually treat me quite well. Thereâs no need for
you to worry about me.â
Cedric scoffed unhappily. âEven that Jeremy kid can get a nice girl like Corinne, so why is our Lucas
still single?â
âThere, there. You know Lucas has always lived his life to the beat of his drum. Have patience. Sooner
or later, heâll bring a girl home. Youâll see,â said Beatrice soothingly.
The more Cedric thought about It, the angrier he got. âWhat do you mean, sooner or later? 1 bet that
brat is just waiting for me to turn in my grave!â
Beatrice smiled helplessly. âHere you go again. We have a guest here, so where are your manners?
Well, why donât you stay here and chat with Corinne for a while, and Iâll go bake some cookies for her?â
âCorinne, let me show you around the garden while my wife is baking some cookies for you,â said
Cedric.
âOkay.â Corinne was happy to do that since she might just find new clues about her motherâs
disappearances.
Thus, Beatrice went to the kitchen while Corinne followed Cedric into the garden. Suddenly,
somewhere out of their sight, a servant sneakily ran up to the second floor.
