Chapter 120
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 120:
Noah stepped into his path. âWhatâs this sudden interest in Sadie? Are you keeping secrets from me?â
Jim avoided a direct response. His eyes flicked to Kyla, still seated, and with a knowing glance, he challenged, âHow long will you keep up this charade? Is it really amusing to have all three of you under one roof here at Myrtlewood Estate?â
Noahâs expression tightened. âStay out of my affairs.â
With a casual shrug, Jim remarked, âIt hardly matters to me.â He then moved past Noah and made his way upstairs, leaving Noah brooding silently in the living room.
Jim knocked softly on the bedroom door, the sound barely audible.
âCome in.â Sadieâs response came from inside, her voice raspy and weak.
As Jim eased the door open, he caught sight of Sadie perched on the edge of the bed, her face slightly drained of color.
âWhat happened last night? Why did you cancel the plan?â Jim approached her, his voice laced with concern, his brow creased with a trace of puzzlement.
âIt was too risky to go through with,â Sadie murmured, shaking her head as a wave of exhaustion seemed to wash over her. âI canât afford to complicate things further.â
Her gaze lifted, eyes steeling with resolve. âI need to figure out a way to step out in the next few days.â
âStep out?â Jim frowned slightly. âWhere do you plan to go?â
âAnywhere but here,â Sadie stated, her voice quivering as she gripped the blanket, her knuckles blanching.
âThereâs no way Noahâs letting you step out alone,â Jim pointed out.
âI know,â Sadie sighed deeply, her expression fraught with determination. âThatâs why I need you. Could you possibly speak with Noah?â
She gazed at Jim, desperation flickering in her eyes. âTell him Iâve got work to handle, and if the business partners canât get a hold of me, theyâll start getting suspicious.â

Jim held her gaze, a silent moment passing between them before he nodded, his expression solemn. âIâll do what I can,â he assured her.
âThanks, Jim,â Sadie said, her voice threaded with gratitude as a warm smile brightened her face.
âDonât stress yourself out over it,â Jim replied, his voice mellowing as he locked eyes with her. âIâll do my best to help you.â
He hesitated, his concern evident as he continued, âJust make sure youâre eating well and resting enough. Itâs not just about you anymore; the baby needs it too.â
âI know, I know,â Sadie murmured, her gaze drifting away thoughtfully.
Jimâs expression was a complex tapestry of emotions as he watched her, wanting to say more but ultimately holding back.
With quiet resolve, he turned and left the room, gently closing the door behind him before making his way downstairs.
Noah was still there, framed against the vast floor-to-ceiling window in the living room, lost in thought.
As Jimâs footsteps echoed softly, Noah turned, his gaze intense and laden with unspoken words.
âWhat were you and Sadie discussing?â he asked, his voice a low rumble.
âNothing,â Jim answered, stopping to face him, his posture tense.
âBut you were in there for a long time,â Noah pressed, skepticism sharpening his tone.
âJust some stuff about her health,â Jim replied, shifting uncomfortably. âSadieâs⦠sheâs not doing great.â
He took a deep breath, steeling himself before adding, âNoah, this isnât working. You canât keep going on like this.â
Noahâs frown deepened, a shadow falling over his features.
