Chapter 138
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 138:
âThe doctors are not hopeful about her condition,â Alex replied, his voice laden with sorrow as he met her tearful gaze.
Tears began to flow down Sadieâs cheeks. Over the last three years, Alex had been instrumental in helping care for her grandmother, Laura, which made the news particularly devastating.
âI must go to her. I need to see Grandma,â Sadie responded, her resolve steeling.
Alex stared at her, his face etched with empathy. âMaybe we could bring your grandmother to Cairhienen,â he suggested.
Sadieâs eyes were red as she quickly responded, âNo, Alex.â
She inhaled deeply, striving for composure, and explained, âGrandma has lived her whole life in her hometown. She wonât handle the change in climate and the time difference here in Cairhienen.â
Sadie paused, her voice tinged with self-reproach. âAnd Iâm so busy with work that I canât take care of Grandma properly.â
Alex looked at her sympathetically, feeling a mix of sorrow and helplessness. âHave you made up your mind?â he asked in a deep voice. âIf you go back, Noah⦠he might find you.â
At the mention of that name, Sadie shivered slightly, then crossed her lips. âIâm not the same Sadie from three years ago,â she declared, her voice sparking with resolve. âI have the means and the confidence now. I wonât let him control me anymore.â
Alex felt a wave of relief seeing her determination. âWhat about your job?â he inquired, concern evident in his tone.
Sadie remained composed; she had already strategized her next steps. âI plan to start my own brand,â she stated confidently. âAfter three years at Majestic Ego, Iâve gained invaluable experience. Itâs time.â
Admiration flickered in Alexâs eyes. He was aware of Sadieâs capabilities. âThatâs a great idea,â he expressed his support enthusiastically. âIf you need any help, just let me know. I could even invest and become a shareholder,â he added, half-jokingly, to lighten the mood.

Tears welled up in Sadieâs eyes as she looked at him gratefully. âThank you, Alex,â she said sincerely. âWithout your support, I wouldnât have been able to become the renowned Sandra or come this far.â
âWhy do you always have to be so formal with me?â Alex laughed. âOnce youâre back home, I wonât have to keep traveling back and forth.â
âHmm?â Sadie seemed to miss his implication.
Alexâs expression flickered, and he coughed to cover up his slip. âNothing,â he quickly said, feigning ease, though his heart was pounding.
He regarded Sadie with deep affection. Over the past three years, he had watched her overcome her challenges, growing stronger and more intriguing every day.
Without realizing it, she had captured his heart. Yet, because of Noah, Alex had never been able to confess his feelings, always conflicted about his attraction to a friendâs wife. But now, he sensed that an opportunity might be on the horizon.
The next day, Sadie took a deep breath to steady her excitement and pushed open the door to the office of Majestic Egoâs design director. âWhatâs up, Sandra?â Amy Flores, the design director, asked, setting aside her design draft and looking up.
Sadie approached Amyâs desk and gently placed a light gray envelope on it. âAmy,â Sadieâs voice faltered slightly. Over the past three years, she had dedicated so much effort and passion to her work here, and the thought of leaving filled her with a mix of emotions.
Amy picked up the envelope, slid out the resignation letter inside, and quickly skimmed through it. Her blue eyes widened in surprise as she looked up at Sadie. âYouâre resigning?â
Sadie nodded, managing a small smile. âYes, Amy, I am.â She paused, gathering her thoughts. âI want to return to Helva to further my career.â
