Chapter 141
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 141:
Averi observed their tears, unsure of what to do. He slipped out of Sadieâs arms, approached the bedside, and gently dabbed at Lauraâs cheeks with his small hands.
âPlease donât cry, Great-Grandma and Mommy,â he said softly, his young voice soothing.
Through her tears, Laura smiled at the sweet child in front of her. âIs this lovely child?â she asked affectionately.
Sadieâs heart sank. Explaining Averiâs identity to Laura seemed daunting. After a brief pause, she chose to lie. âHeâs⦠Alexâs son.â
Taken aback for a moment, Alex quickly caught on. Approaching the bedside, he wrapped an arm around Sadie.
âYes, heâs my son,â he said firmly. âDue to family objections to our relationship, we had him overseas.â
Laura gazed at Sadie, her eyes filled with empathy. âMy dear, you have endured so much,â she said, before shifting her gaze to Alex, her tone tinged with disapproval. âAlex, how could you let Sadie face such difficulties?â
Holding Sadieâs hand tightly, Alex responded earnestly, âDonât worry. Iâll marry Sadie soon and ensure she is recognized as she deserves.â Emotion tinged his voice, stirring a flutter in Sadieâs heart.
After soothing Laura, Alex got ready to leave. âLaura, Sadie, itâs time for me to head out.â
At the doorway, Sadie bid him farewell. âThanks, Alex.â
âDonât worry about it,â he responded, smiling. âYouâve just gotten back. Have you thought about where youâll stay?â
âIâm still figuring that out,â Sadie quickly replied.
Pausing, Alex then suggested, âMaybe I could assist you in finding a bigger apartment? It might be more practical.â

Shaking her head, Sadie declined. âThereâs no need, Alex. I can manage on my own.â
She preferred not to impose any further on him.
To help with Averi, Sadie hired a nanny, Carol Green.
âMommy, where are you going?â Averi gripped her leg, his expression showing his reluctance to let her go.
Bending down, Sadie caressed his head. âI need you to be a good boy, okay? My grandma and I are going to the hospital for a check-up. Iâll return soon.â
âCan I come with you?â Averi looked up at her with hopeful eyes. Sadie smiled. âNext time, sweetheart. This visit, Mommy needs to discuss some things privately with my grandma.â
Averi nodded, though hesitantly. âAlright, but please come back quickly.â
âI promise, I will.â
As they left, Sadie held Lauraâs hand tightly.
âHow are you feeling, Grandma?â she inquired.
âMuch better now,â Laura answered, affectionately squeezing Sadieâs hand. âHaving you here really calms me.â
Tears welled up in Sadieâs eyes as she softly said, âGrandmaâ¦â
Swiftly, Sadie averted her gaze to the window, concealing her emotional state from Laura.
âBy the way, Sadie, have you and Alex set a wedding date yet?â Laura inquired unexpectedly.
A heavy feeling descended upon Sadieâs heart.
âActually⦠we havenât set a date,â she stammered.
