Chapter 144
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 144:
Not wanting to worry Laura and Averi, Sadie whispered to Carol, âCarol, please take Averi and my grandma back. Iâll handle this.â
Carol gave Sadie a worried look but nodded, gently carrying Averi and assisting Laura back into the apartment.
Sadie turned to face Kyla, who regarded her with a mocking smile. After three years, Kyla still radiated glamour but now carried a more assertive air, stripped of her previous innocence.
âWell, if it isnât the great designer Sadie? I thought you were dead!â Kyla said, her arms crossed, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Sadie responded with a faint smile, her voice steady, âSorry to disappoint you, Miss Wade. Iâm very much alive.â
Three years had changed much. Gone was the timid Sadie of the past. Now, she stood with firm confidence, her gaze steady.
Kyla felt a twinge of unease seeing Sadieâs transformation. Was this really the same Sadie she once manipulated so easily? The woman before her now was composed and unflinching, her eyes reflecting a depth Kyla found unnerving.
However, Kylaâs unease quickly morphed into smug superiority.
Sadie dropped her calm facade, her eyes turning icy as she looked into Kylaâs eyes. âItâs quite late. Why are you here?â
Kyla replied, âI saw you at the hospital today and thought Iâd drop by. Didnât expect youâd have a child with youâ¦â
She paused, her hand lingering over her flat stomach, her smile loaded with implication.
Sadieâs expression hardened, her hands balling into fistsâa reaction Kyla noted with vindictive satisfaction.
âThe child is adorable. He looks just like you,â Kyla said, continuing her provocation.

âIf youâve come just to see the child, youâve seen him. Please leave. I donât want any trouble,â Sadie said, her voice icy, her anger barely contained.
âTrouble? Get this straight, Sadie. Youâre the one causing trouble. Three years, and youâre still here in Jazmah. Donât tell me itâs not because youâre still hung up on Noah.â Kylaâs voice was cutting. âTake my advice and move on. Heâs with me now, and weâre getting married soon.â
Sadie took a deep breath, striving to keep her emotions in check. âI returned solely to care for my grandmother. This has nothing to do with you or Noah.â
Kyla scoffed coldly. âReally? You expect me to believe that? You abandoned Noah for money three years ago. Now, youâre back, trying to rekindle old flames, arenât you?â
âWhat are you talking about?â Sadieâs voice rang out, every syllable dripping with anger. âI never planned to cross paths with Noah ever again!â
âReally?â Kyla retorted, her tone laced with skepticism. âItâs been three years, and not once has he tried to reach out to you, Sadie.â A glint of malice sparked in her eyes as she leaned in closer. âDo you know what Noah said after your car accident three years ago? âItâd be simpler if she just disappeared.'â
Sadie felt the sting of those words as if a blade had sliced through her soul. Her entire body shook, her complexion turning ghostly, her jaw locked tight.
âGet out of my sight!â Sadie seethed, her fists tightening. âI donât care about Noah, and I donât want you near me! I swear, Iâll never see him again!â
With those final words, she pivoted on her heel and strode away, her steps faltering but filled with fierce determination.
Kylaâs eyes narrowed as she watched Sadie retreat. A shadow of doubt flickered across her face. She wasnât convinced Sadie had truly moved on.
âKeep watch over her,â she murmured icily to the empty space before turning to leave.
