Chapter 145
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 145:
âKyla?â A deep voice shattered the stillness.
Whirling around, Kyla found herself facing Alex, who stood at the shadowy threshold of the corridor, his brow creased and his eyes reflecting a chilling frost.
âWhat the hell are you doing here?â Alex demanded sharply. His sudden presence seemed to snatch the smug grin right off Kylaâs face.
Kyla blinked, momentarily thrown off balance, but she swiftly masked her surprise, her eyes flickering with defiance before settling back into their usual haughty glare.
âOh, Alex, what a coincidence,â she drawled, her voice dripping with feigned surprise. âStill playing the gallant knight for Sadie after all these years?â
Alexâs expression turned stormy, his voice cold and steely. âKyla, what exactly are you up to?â
With a sneer curling her lips, Kylaâs eyes sparkled with scorn. âWhat am I up to?â she huffed, leaning in closer. âJust paying a visit to an old friend. But you, Alexâthree years and still chasing after Sadieâs affection? How⦠romantic.â
She stretched the word, her voice thick with sarcasm, mocking Alexâs unrequited devotion.
Alexâs hands balled into fists at his sides, his jaw tightening as he fought to keep his anger in check. âKyla, whatever you think is going on with Sadie and me, youâre wrong.â
Kylaâs eyebrow arched maliciously, and her smirk widened. âOh? It isnât what I think? Then enlighten me, Alexâwhose child is that?â Her gaze landed on the door to Lauraâs apartment, her question hanging heavily in the air like a charged accusation.
Alex inhaled sharply, his chest heaving as he struggled to maintain control. He was keenly aware that he couldnât let Kyla uncover the truth, nor could he risk her spilling everything to Noah.
With a tense voice, he shot back, âThis is Sadieâs personal matterâit has nothing to do with you.â

âPersonal matter? Sounds more like something scandalous,â Kyla retorted, her voice dripping with scorn. âAlex, you really should open your eyes. Donât let that woman fool you!â
Alex felt a surge of frustration but restrained himself, fearful that Noah might appear out of nowhere, leaving him scrambling for an explanation.
Steadying his voice, he warned, âKyla, enough! Stay out of this! Sheâs done with the chaosâlet her have the peaceful life she deserves and donât bother her again!â
Kyla laughed harshly, disbelief clear on her face. âA peaceful life? If peace is really what sheâs after, why come back to Jazmah? Face it, Alexâyouâre blind to how sheâs manipulating you!â
Alexâs eyes narrowed, a cold fire burning behind them. âThatâs none of your business! Get the hell out of here!â
Turning around, Kyla strode toward her car parked along the roadside. Pausing by the door, she threw Alex a loaded glance. âIf youâre really in love with her, youâd better stake your claim fast. Youâre not the only one interested.â
With those parting words, she slid into her car and sped off.
Alex stood there, watching the red taillights fade into the distance, his brow creased with worry and contemplation. He lingered for a brief moment, then turned and made his way to Lauraâs apartment.
With a gentle rap on the door, he waited, his heart pounding with a mix of anticipation and dread. When the door swung open, Sadie stood there, her smile tired but welcoming.
âAlex, what brings you here at this hour?â she inquired softly, her voice a gentle murmur.
âI needed to see how you and your grandmother were holding up,â Alex replied, stepping inside with concern evident in his voice. âHow is she?â
âSheâs resting, already turned in for the night,â Sadie whispered, her gaze dropping slightly. âKyla stopped by earlier.â
