Chapter 168
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 168:
âNoah, you wanted to see me?â she inquired softly, her voice carrying a hint of flirtation as she took a seat beside him.
Noah placed the wine glass down, his intense gaze fixed on her. âHow much do you know about Byrum?â he inquired.
Kylaâs heart skipped a beat, but she maintained a facade of surprise. âByrum? Who is he? Is something wrong? Donât frighten me like that.â
Noahâs expression remained unchanged. âHeâs dead. Hit by a car.â
âWhat?!â Kyla covered her mouth, feigning shock. âThatâs horrible! How could such a thing happen?â She shivered, simulating distress.
âThe police ruled it an accident, butâ¦â Noah paused, his eyes narrowing slightly. âIt seems he was trying to contact you before he died.â
Kylaâs complexion paled, but she struggled to appear composed. âContact me? Iâm not sure why. Maybe because I once helped him secure a job.â
âIs that so?â Noahâs lips twisted into a faint, skeptical smile as he observed her.
Kyla swallowed hard, forcing a smile. âNoah, are you suspecting me? How could I possiblyââ
âKyla.â Noah interrupted her. âI need you to understand that I do not tolerate deception.â
His intense gaze made it difficult for Kyla to maintain her composure, but years of honing her deceitful skills helped her quickly recover.
Tears welled up, her eyes reddening as she put on a pitiful look. âNoah, do you truly suspect me? Byrum and I barely knew each other. How could I possiblyâ¦â
Kyla paused, taking a deep breath.
âI know youâre upset because of what happened to Sadie, but⦠have you forgotten who saved you back then? If not for me, youâ¦â Her voice faltered, tears spilling over as her tone became more distraught. âIâve done so much for you, and yet youâ¦â

She covered her face, her shoulders trembling as she cried.
She was gambling that Noahâs sense of guilt and the memories of her past assistance would sway his judgment.
Noah watched her cry, his expression complex, and remained silent.
The room was heavy with tension.
After a lengthy silence, he finally spoke, his voice low and firm. âLeave.â
The door closed softly behind Kyla.
Once he was alone, Noahâs indifferent facade disappeared.
He picked up a file from the table, gripping it so tightly that the edges crumpled.
It contained detailed records of every collusion between Kyla and Byrum, including the leak of the design drafts from Sadieâs studio.
âSamuel,â he called out sharply.
Samuel entered the room promptly. âMr. Wall.â
âTake care of this situation and make Byrum bear all the blame. Also, contact Sadieâs studio. Inform them that Wall Group is interested in a collaboration.â
âMr. Wallâ¦â Samuel hesitated. âByrum isâIâ¦â
Noahâs icy stare cut him off. âUnderstood. Iâll see to it immediately.â
As Sadie slowly regained consciousness in the ward, a tender voice pierced the silence.
âMommy!â
A small figure jumped onto the hospital bed. It was Averi.
His tiny hand gently touched Sadieâs cheek, his big eyes brimming with concern. âMommy, you really scared me. Please donât leave me again, okay?â
Sadieâs heart melted at his words. She embraced Averi tightly and kissed his forehead softly.
