Chapter 176
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 176:
âBye!â Averi shouted.
âBye.â
Alex remained still, watching them until they vanished down the hallway, then he slowly walked away.
The next morning, Sadie inhaled deeply and entered the Wall Group building. The receptionist welcomed her and pointed her toward the HR department.
There, the HR manager, impeccably dressed, greeted her with a smile that didnât quite warm her eyes.
âMiss Hudson, welcome. Iâm Ayanne Mitchell, the HR manager.â
âHello, Ms. Mitchell,â Sadie responded, nodding courteously. âMr. Wall has mentioned you to me. Please, come with me to your office.â
As Sadie followed Ayanne, she noticed the office layout was unchanged from three years ago. They moved past busy workstations, the clatter of keyboards echoing around them.
Instead of leading her to a modern office, however, Ayanne took her down a quieter corridor to a plain, weathered iron door. As Ayanne unlocked it, they were greeted by a musty smell.
Inside was a cluttered storage room, dimly lit and dusty, almost stifling.
Sadie stopped short.
âThis is my office?â
Ayanne dismissed her concern casually. âYes, Miss Hudson. Itâs all we have available right now.â Her smile was sharp, with a flicker of mockery.
Sadieâs heart sank. This wasnât an office; it was a forgotten storeroom. But she quickly regained her composure, her eyes hardening. After years in the corporate world, she was all too familiar with these tactics.
âMs. Mitchell, are you certain this decision came from Mr. Wall?â

Ayanne paused, caught off guard by Sadieâs composed demeanor. She adjusted her glasses, striving to sound authoritative. âAbsolutely, Mr. Wall personally arranged this.â
âReally?â Sadieâs lips twisted into a skeptical smile. âIt seems more like someone is using Mr. Wallâs name to complicate things for me.â She stepped forward, reducing the distance between them. âAre you prepared to accept responsibility for someone elseâs misconduct?â
Ayanneâs composure wavered, and her eyes darted nervously. Sadieâs direct challenge visibly unnerved her.
âMiss Hudson, Iâm not sure what youâre suggesting.â Ayanne faltered, her confidence fading.
âNot sure?â Sadieâs smile widened with a hint of derision. âLetâs be clear. I suspect Kyla has bribed you, hasnât she? Wall Group isnât Kylaâs private empire, and youâre jeopardizing your career over her schemes. Are you really willing to risk it all?â
âI havenâtâ¦â Ayanneâs response weakened as she avoided Sadieâs steady gaze.
âReally?â Sadie persisted firmly. âThen perhaps you should verify this âoffice arrangementâ with Mr. Wall right now.â
Ayanne blanched, stepping back involuntarily, at a loss for words. Sadie observed her, a knowing smirk playing on her lips.
Sadieâs tone lightened suddenly, and she chuckled softly, her voice tinged with a hint of relief. âNever mind.â
Ayanne paused, perplexed. âMiss Hudsonâ¦â
Sadie looked around the room. âThis will do.â
Confusion deepened on Ayanneâs face. âMiss Hudson, you⦠youâre not upset anymore?â
Sadie faced Ayanne squarely, her expression calm and insistent. âUpset? Why would I be upset? I just wanted to give you a few warnings.â She smiled subtly, her eyes glinting with mischief. âThis place is quiet, away from certain distractions. Itâs exactly what I need.â
