Chapter 18
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 18:
Their encounter felt like the universeâs cruel joke.
Clad in a pale yellow dress that accentuated her porcelain-like skin, Kyla epitomized deceptive innocence.
But behind that seemingly harmless facade, Sadie was keenly aware of the conniving spirit that dwelled.
âHello, Sadie,â Kyla began, her voice dripping with feigned concern, a mocking smile curling her lips. âYou look absolutely worn out. Didnât get much sleep, did you?â
Sadieâs hand instinctively clenched into a tight fist, a sharp pain lancing through her palm.
She remained silent, casting a frosty glare at Kyla before trying to brush past her.
Kylaâs voice spiked with deliberate provocation as she called out, âWell, yeah. Any woman would be restless if they knew their man was in another womanâs bed, wouldnât they?â Her words echoed with malice.
Stopping dead in her tracks, Sadie lifted her head abruptly, her eyes blazing as she met Kylaâs challenging gaze.
Rage blazed inside her, searing through her like wildfire.
âSo what?â she hissed, her words slicing through the tense air like shards of ice. âIn the end, youâre nothing but a pathetic mistress.â
For a fleeting moment, Kylaâs confident smile wavered, but she quickly masked her momentary doubt.
Leaning in close, she whispered into Sadieâs ear, her voice a venomous hiss only the two of them could hear, âTalk all you want, but at the end of the day, itâs Noahâs feelings that decide everything.â
A chill ran down Sadieâs spine, a foreboding feeling washing over her. Kylaâs words struck like a dagger, twisting deep in her heart.
She couldnât bring herself to dwell on what Noah might be thinking or the disaster that could follow.

As Kyla observed Sadieâs complexion turn ghostly pale, her lips curled into a smug smile.
This was precisely the reaction she soughtâto see Sadie tormented, pushed to the brink of despair, compelled to retreat.
Brushing off the confrontation with a dismissive flick of her wrist, Kyla declared, âI have things to do, so Iâll be off.â
She then turned sharply and walked away, her heels clicking ominously against the hard floor.
Sadie sank into her chair, a whirlwind of emotions leaving her unsettled.
The moment she walked into the office, an awkward silence settled over her colleagues, their eyes darting away as if that could undo the whispers from before.
Distracted by the whirlwind of her thoughts, Sadie barely registered the shift in the officeâs mood.
It wasnât until a colleagueânervous and fidgetyâmade her way to her desk that Sadie snapped back to reality. With a hesitant cough, the colleague seemed to struggle with words, her discomfort palpable in the thick air.
âWhatâs going on here?â Sadieâs voice cut through the silence, her brow furrowed in concern.
The office felt suddenly smaller as her colleagues exchanged uneasy looks. Finally, one of them stepped forward, her face flushed with embarrassment. âSadie, we owe you an apology,â she said, unable to meet Sadieâs eyes.
âWe got it all wrong. We shouldnât have jumped to conclusions,â another colleague said.
âWe thought that you and Mr. Wall⦠well, that you were the other womanâ¦â
âIt was wrong of us to assume without knowing the whole story. Please forgive us.â
