Chapter 203
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 203:
Rushing forward, Sadie asked, her voice rough with worry, âDoctor, howâs my son?â
The doctor, mask in hand, looked serious. âHis fever isnât subsiding, and the situation is concerning. Itâs not a simple cold or fever. We recommend a bone marrow puncture to identify the cause.â
âA bone marrow puncture?â Sadie froze, filled with fear.
âThe procedure is crucial for a quick diagnosis and effective treatment,â the doctor continued with patience. âItâs best we act swiftly.â
Dizziness hit Sadie again, her body nearly giving way.
Averi seemed too fragile for such an invasive test.
Sadieâs heart ached with an unbearable weight, making it hard to breathe.
Overwhelmed by worry, she managed to ask, âIsnât there any other option? Must we do a bone marrow puncture?â
The doctorâs sigh indicated the gravity of the situation. âThis is our best option at this moment.â
Alex approached, his hand comforting on Sadieâs shoulder. âSadie, trust that the doctors will do their best for Averi.â
As Sadie looked into Alexâs eyes, her tears flowed freely. In the end, she signed the consent form with a trembling hand.
An hour had passed when Averi, still under anesthesia, was gently wheeled into his hospital room. Sadie, seated beside his bed, clutched his tiny hand, her eyes wide open throughout the night.
Outside the hospital, a sleek black Maybach sat silently by the curb, its interior bathed in soft light. Noah, brooding in the driverâs seat, held a cigarette loosely between his fingers. The echo of Sadieâs revelation haunted him: âAveri is my child with Alex.â
In a burst of anger, Noah flicked the cigarette butt into the night and pounded the steering wheel with his fist. He refused to accept this.
Taking a deep breath, he grabbed his phone and hastily dialed Samuel.
âFind out everything about Sadieâs child.â
Samuelâs confusion was palpable. âChild? What child?â
Impatiently, Noah clarified, âSadieâs child. Heâs in the hospital. Investigate him! And fire Jordyn.â
With a heavy sigh, he ended the call and massaged his temples. Samuel, still bewildered, knew better than to probe further and started his investigation without delay.
In the morning, Kylaâs heels clicked sharply against the floor as she made her way back to Wall Group. Having completed her business trip, Kyla had arranged to return on the first available flight.
âWhereâs Noah?â She glanced around, but the office was empty.
She tried calling him, only to be greeted by the monotonous tone of an automated message, saying, âSorry, the number youâve dialed is temporarily unavailable.â
With each repetition, a sinking feeling grew in Kylaâs chest, her unease mounting.
Stowing her phone, Kyla made her way toward Jordynâs office. It was also empty, the desk neatly tidied up. A wave of apprehension caused Kylaâs heart to skip a beat.
She halted a colleague passing by. âWhereâs Jordyn?â she inquired. The colleague paused briefly, then answered with caution, âSheâs been fired, Miss Wade.â
âFired?â Kyla was stunned. Jordynâs sudden dismissal didnât make sense. A nagging suspicion crept into her mind. Had Noah discovered something significant already?
At the hospital, Sadie remained beside Averiâs bed, her gaze fixed on her sonâs small, pale face. Alex stayed beside her in silence, occasionally handing her a glass of water and murmuring a few reassuring words.
