Chapter 229
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 229:
âMommy will make sure you get better,â she whispered, her voice thick with emotion.
Sadie knew Kylaâs motive well; Kyla wanted to remove her from Noahâs life, and nothing would stop her. Then, she would just leave. Nothing mattered more than Averiâs life.
Sadie picked up her phone, her hand steady despite the gravity of the situation. She dialed Kylaâs number, her heart pounding as the call rang through.
The line connected, and Kylaâs smug voice came through, dripping with satisfaction. âSadie, have you finally come to your senses?â
Sadieâs voice remained calm, her tone betraying no emotion. âI want to talk to you.â
Kylaâs laughter echoed on the other end. âFine. Tomorrow morning, Iâll meet you at the cafe beside the hospital,â she said before abruptly hanging up.
Sadie put the phone down with a quiet exhale, her gaze returning to Averi. The weight of her decision settled heavily on her chest, but there was no turning back. For Averi, she would endure anything.
The following morning, Sadie stood before the mirror, adjusting her coat and gathering her thoughts. With a final glance at Averi, she opened the door to the hospital room and stepped into the corridor. The corridor was eerily silent, the faint click of her heels echoing as she made her way toward the elevator.
As the elevator descended, an unexpected calm washed over Sadie. She had prepared herself for what was to come, ready to face whatever Kyla threw her way.
The cafe smelled of fresh coffee and pastries, but Sadie barely noticed. She sat by the window, lost in thought as she waited for Kyla to arrive. Kyla arrived late, walking into the cafe like she owned it. Her black business suit was impeccably tailored, and her makeup flawless. She carried a Hermes Birkin bag in her hand, symbolizing her wealth. She approached Sadie with an air of superiority and sat across from her.
âSo, whatâs your decision?â she asked.
Sadie met Kylaâs gaze, her expression unflinching. âIâll leave Noah. Forever.â
Kyla arched an eyebrow, a hint of disbelief flashing across her face. âForever?â she repeated, her tone laced with skepticism.
Sadie raised her eyes to meet Kylaâs intense gaze, her voice steady, yet laced with a finality that chilled the air. âIâm leaving for abroad and I wonât return. Noah already believes Averi isnât his child, so you have no worries now.â
Kyla regarded Sadie intently, her eyes narrowing as she tried to decipher the truth in her words.
There was a tense silence before Kylaâs lips curled into a small smile. âSo, youâve finally seen reason. You should have done this a long time ago.â
Sadie lowered her eyes.
âKeep in mind what youâve promised.â Kyla took a sip of her coffee, leaving a vivid crimson mark on the cupâs edge.
Sadie remained silent, her features masked in stoicism as she observed Kyla, her thoughts veiled.
After what seemed like an eternity, Sadie gave a slight nod and stood to leave, her movements stiff with resolve.
Just as she walked out the door, a warm, familiar voice pierced the tension.
âSadie!â
Sadieâs body locked in place as she lifted her gaze inch by inch.
Alex was standing nearby, his expression etched with deep concern. He hurried over, his gaze instantly drawn to Sadieâs slightly ashen complexion, the anxiety clear in his eyes.
âHey, whatâs going on? You donât look so good,â Alex murmured, his voice laced with worry. He reached out, as if to gently caress her cheek, but hesitated, his hand hovering in the air.
Sidestepping his touch, Sadie mustered a weak smile and said, âIâm fine, really.â
