Chapter 240
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 240:
With a jolt, Kyla let go of Kairiâs collar, wiping her hands as if to rid herself of the filth.
Her voice dropped to a menacing whisper. âIf you utter a single word about thisâ¦â She let the threat hang in the air, her eyes conveying a clear warning.
Cowering, Kairi retreated further into the bed.
Kyla turned around, her high heels clicking sharply against the floor. As the door to the ward slammed shut, it obscured Kairiâs terrified expression.
Anger swelled within Kyla.
Kairi had completely shattered all of her careful arrangements!
Diving into her designer handbag, Kyla retrieved her phone and quickly dialed Jordynâs number.
As the call connected, Jordynâs overly sweet tone filled the phone. âWhat can I do for you, Miss Wade?â
âJordyn, didnât you promise to send Kairi abroad?!â Kylaâs voice sliced through the air, sharp as a blade.
A hesitant silence followed before Jordyn replied, noticeably unnerved, âI have made those arrangements, Miss Wade, butââ
âBut what?!â Kylaâs frustration erupted. âShe was right in front of me! How am I supposed to handle this now?! You can kiss your future as the design director at Alice Design Studio goodbye!â
The line went silent, leaving only the sound of Jordynâs rapid breathing.
âMiss Wade⦠Miss Wade! You have to hear me outâwe still have an option!â Jordynâs voice wavered, laced with desperation.
Kylaâs tone was cold. âAnd what option is that?â
âAlice Design Studio is tied to Sadieâs business through a collaboration. If we pull the right strings, sheâll be out of the pictureâeasily.â Jordynâs words dripped with urgency, clinging to this last sliver of hope.

âOh?â Kylaâs interest was piqued. âIâm listening.â
Jordyn wasted no time, laying out her plan, every move meticulously calculated.
âSadieâs studio is handling a critical project right now. All it takes is one well-placed disruption andâ¦â
Silence stretched between them. Then, Kyla exhaled slowly, her voice cutting through the air like a blade. âJordyn, this is your last chance. If this fails again, consider your career buried.â Without another word, the line went dead.
Meanwhile, in Averiâs hospital room, Sadie leaned against the headboard, holding a fairy tale book in her hands. Her voice was soft, soothing, as she read aloud, coaxing the restless child in her arms to sleep.
Averiâs flushed cheeks and fluttering lashes made him look impossibly delicate, his tiny fingers clutching at Sadieâs collar as he murmured something incomprehensible. Sleep eluded him, his grip firm, as if he feared she might disappear.
Then, a gentle knock echoed against the door.
âCome in,â Sadie murmured softly.
The door opened, and Alex stepped inside, his tall frame silhouetted against the dim light. In his hand, he carried a delicate thermos box.
âAveriâs still awake?â he asked quietly, his gaze settling on the small boy nestled in Sadieâs arms.
Sadie let out a weary sigh, her lips curving into a faint, resigned smile. âHe just wonât settle tonight.â
The exhaustion in her voice was unmistakable. Her once-vibrant eyes had lost some of their luster, and the pallor of her skin made her seem even more fragile. Lately, her health had been faltering, and though she tried to hide it, the weight of it lingered in the air.
Alex placed the thermos on the nightstand. âI brought you something to eat. You should have it while itâs still warm.â
