Chapter 242
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 242:
âIâve already made up my mind, Alex,â she said gently but firmly. âI want to restart my career. I want to build something better for Averi. A future he can be proud of.â
A long, quiet sigh left Alexâs lips. For a moment, he seemed as if he wanted to say more, to argue, to convince her. But instead, he simply nodded, retreating. âAlright,â he said finally. âI respect your decision.â Then, with a quiet kind of devotion, he added, âBut if you ever need anything⦠anything at all, just say the word.â
Sadieâs lips curved into a small, grateful smile. âThank you, Alex.â
A few days later, Sadie sat by the hospital bed, her eyes fixed on Averi as he slept with a serene expression. A smile gently played at the edges of her mouth.
âHeâs doing much better and can go home today,â Jim said as he stepped through the door, his face breaking into a warm smile. âJust remember, he needs lots of rest. Donât let him get too tired.â
Standing up, Sadie expressed her gratitude. âI appreciate everything, Dr. Archer,â she said, a sense of relief in her voice.
Averiâs quick recovery over the recent days was a testament to the excellent care he had received.
Gently caressing Averiâs soft cheeks, Sadie whispered excitedly, âSweetie, weâre heading home today!â
Averi opened his eyes slowly, his face lighting up with a radiant smile upon seeing his mother. âMommy, letâs go home!â he exclaimed.
The joy in Averiâs voice melted Sadieâs heart instantly.
She lifted him in her arms, planting a soft kiss on his cheek. âAlright, letâs head out.â
With the discharge paperwork complete, Sadie carried her son out of the hospital.
Once home, she carefully placed Averi on the floor. He scurried off, his little legs carrying him unsteadily toward his toys.

Turning to Carol, Sadie outlined some precautions. âAveriâs just come home, so letâs keep his meals light and steer clear of anything heavy or spicy. And no rough play for a while. Make sure he stays safe, please.â
Carol nodded a few times. âDonât worry, Miss Hudson. Iâll take good care of Averi.â
As she watched Averi playing with pure joy, warmth spread through Sadieâs heart.
The following morning, Sadie dressed in a crisp off-white suit that complimented her slim frame. She had her long hair neatly pulled back into a bun, showcasing her graceful neck.
Her makeup was subtle yet effective, concealing her recent tiredness and accentuating her soft features and poised demeanor.
As the elevator climbed quietly, a flutter of nervousness touched Sadieâs heart.
Dingâ
With the sound, the elevator doors slid open and Sadie stepped out.
She had just approached the door to the design department when a familiar figure hurried toward her, linking arms with her in an excited gesture.
âSadie! Youâre back!â exclaimed Tina, her face alight with enthusiasm as she drew Sadie into the department. âSo much has happened hereâitâs like something out of a TV drama!â
Tina pulled Sadie along, causing her to stumble slightly as she tried to match Tinaâs brisk pace.
âWhat happened? Explain it to me, but take your time,â Sadie said.
In a quieter section of the area, Tina leaned in and whispered with a hint of mystery, âYou wonât believe thisâKylaâs been fired!â
Sadie stopped cold at the news.
Her brows, perfectly arched, knitted together slightly as astonishment flickered in her eyes. âFired? Why?â
