Chapter 258
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 258:
Sadie gazed down at him with a look of disdain.
âPeople often say that the deepest betrayals are those committed by the ones we trust the most.â
As she spoke, Pierreâs complexion turned a shade paler. He found himself unable to meet her eyes, his gaze darting about restlessly. âThere are only two keys to the safe that housed the Cardilla Pink Diamond; one is with me, and the other with you. Could there be any explanation other than you having taken it?â
At this revelation, despair washed over Pierre; he had been completely unaware of that fact.
Without giving him a chance to recover, Sadie continued, âIâve had a detective check your financial activities. Just before the pink diamond went missing, your account showed several mysterious transactions.â Sadie remained composed. She had predicted such a scenario, though she hadnât expected Pierre to be involved.
At that moment, two police officers in uniform entered the banquet hall and made their way straight toward her.
Pierreâs eyes grew wide with alarm as he looked at Sadie, his voice trembling. âDid you call the police on me?â
Sadie offered no reply, merely regarding him with a look that lacked any semblance of sympathy.
Upon reaching Sadie, the officers flashed their badges and one addressed her. âMiss Hudson, weâre here about a theft report.â
âYes,â Sadie responded with tranquility. âHeâs the perpetrator.â
The officers didnât hesitate, swiftly handcuffing Pierre.
As they escorted him away, Pierre shouted loudly, âIâm innocent! This is a setup!â
His objections and attempts to resist were futile, easily subdued as he was taken out of the room.
After the commotion settled, Sadie gracefully returned to the mingling crowd, her demeanor calm and undisturbed. The sound of clinking glasses and ongoing conversations filled the air around her.
Sadie lingered by the champagne tower, holding a glass of champagne without taking a sip.
Leanna moved through the crowd to approach her.
âSadie, why are you standing here all by yourself? Iâve been searching for you everywhere,â Leanna said, her voice warm and concerned.
Looking up, Sadie managed a strained smile. âIâve just been dealing with some personal issues. I didnât mean to cause you concern.â
Leanna touched Sadieâs hand reassuringly. âIâm aware of the challenges youâve faced lately.â
Sadie lowered her gaze, choosing to remain silent.
With a sigh, Leanna reached into her stylish handbag and retrieved a business card, handing it to Sadie.
âAn old friend of mine just returned from overseas. She works with a company even more renowned than the Lawrence Group. It might be a good move for you to secure a deal with them if youâre looking to make a significant impact.â
Sadie took the card from Leanna.
With a grave expression, Leanna continued, âSadie, your talent is truly exceptional. All you need is the right opportunity. Remember, chances like this are rareâmake sure you seize it.â
