Chapter 319
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 319:
Opening the refrigerator, she checked the stock of ingredients.
âTap, tap, tapâ¦â From a distance, the sound of quick, light footsteps echoed. Turning, Sadie saw Averi joyfully running towards her, his backpack bouncing with each hop, closely followed by the butler.
âMommy!â Averi exclaimed, jumping into Sadieâs arms and planting a loud kiss on her cheek.
âSweetheart, did you have a good day at kindergarten?â Sadie asked, her voice soft as she embraced her son.
âYes!â Averi said eagerly.
Laughing, the butler said, âToday, Averi was praised by his teacher at school.â Sadie gently ruffled her sonâs hair, her eyes shining with pride and affection.
Suddenly, a disturbance at the front door signaled Noahâs return.
He passed his coat to a servant and made his way directly to the dining room. âMr. Wall!â As soon as Averi spotted Noah, he slipped from Sadieâs embrace and dashed towards him.
Noahâs heart softened immediately. He knelt to lift Averi into his arms. âHave you been a good boy for Mommy today?â
âYes,â Averi replied clearly.
They gathered at the dining table when dinner was ready. The servants brought out dish after dish, each more inviting and beautifully arranged than the last.
In silence, Sadie piled food onto Averiâs plate, while Noah ate quietly. A subtle, almost unnoticeable tension filled the air around them.
Suddenly, Noahâs phone broke the silence with its ring.
He checked the caller ID to see Kylaâs name.

After picking up, he heard Kylaâs frail voice. âNoah, I feel terribleâ¦â
Sadieâs grip on her utensils tightened, her eyes drifting towards Noah, despite herself.
Maintaining his composure, Noah responded, âWhat seems to be the problem? You should consult a doctor.â Sadie was stunned.
In the past, whenever Kyla reached out, Noah would immediately drop everything to be by her side, regardless of the hour or his current activities. This time, however, he made no move to leave.
Kylaâs voice carried a note of distress over the phone. âBut⦠I want to see youâ¦â
Noah responded with detached coolness, âIf youâre unwell, itâs best to rest. Iâm occupied right now.â
After ending the call, he returned his phone to his pocket.
A pang of curiosity hit Sadie, and she secretly observed Noah, searching for any sign of change in his demeanor.
His expression remained unreadable, betraying no sign of the conversation that had just occurred.
Tension at the table thickened evidently.
Even Averi picked up on the mood, eating his meal in silence.
After a while, Sadie found the nerve to address the issue, her tone tentative. âIf Miss Wade is truly sick, perhaps you should visit her. What ifâ¦â
She paused, her voice quivering a bit. âWhat if something serious is wrong? That would be awful.â
