Chapter 358
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 358:
Sadie straightened, offering a grateful nod. âGot it, Ms. Shaw. You should rest too.â
The butler led Sadie to the entrance, then gracefully held the car door open for her.
Sadie got into the car, started the engine, and drove slowly away from Stonemont Estate. The night had deepened, yet Myrtlewood Estate was brilliantly illuminated. Sadie pushed open the front door and rubbed her temples, weary. She halted abruptly, taken aback by the sight before her.
In the living room, Laura sat on the sofa, serenely peeling an apple. âGrandma? What are you doing here?â Sadie exclaimed, turning her gaze to Breck, who stood by respectfully. âWhatâs happening?â
Before Breck could respond, Laura offered a warm smile, her face creased with kindness. âSadie, I was discharged from the hospital today. I met Noah, and he mentioned your concerns about me, so he brought me here to recuperate.â Laura handed the peeled apple to Sadie, her eyes probing. âSadie, what exactly is your relationship with Noah?â
Taking the apple, Sadie felt as if she were holding a hot potato. She bit into the apple, but its sweetness did little to alleviate the bitterness swelling within her.
âHeâs⦠heâs just my boss,â Sadie stammered, avoiding Lauraâs penetrating gaze.
âBoss?â Laura seemed skeptical, deftly tossing the apple core into the trash bin. âWhy would your boss bring me back to his home? Why would he show such concern for you?â
Sadie struggled to articulate a response. She could not reveal to Laura that Noah had once been her husband, that he now seemed like a stranger, and that he even deliberately complicated her life.
âSadie,â Laura continued earnestly, setting down the fruit knife. âIâm old, and my only wish is for you to find someone with whom you can build a joyful future. Noah appears kind. Heâs dynamic, successful, and shows genuine care for you.â

âGrandma, itâs not as you think,â Sadie cut in, her voice tinged with urgency. âThere really is nothing between us.â
âThen why is he so concerned for you?â Laura inquired, gesturing to the flowers and fruit on the table. âHe had these delivered to nourish you.â
Sadie gazed at the vibrant flowers, her emotions a tangled web of confusion and frustration.
Indeed, Noahâs gestures had bred these misunderstandings.
âGrandma, you really misunderstoodâ¦â Sadie murmured, her voice fading to a whisper.
Laura sighed and patted Sadieâs hand. âSadie, I know you have your reservations, but love cannot be coerced. If you truly donât harbor feelings for him, Iâll refrain from pressuring you.â
Sadie fell silent, her gaze fixed on the apple in her hand as she pondered.
âAlright, Iâll say no more,â Laura declared with a smile, easing the tension. âYou look exhausted. Go rest.â
Without responding, Sadie left the living room and retreated to her bedroom. She closed the door, leaned against it, and slid to the floor. Clutching her knees to her chest, she buried her face in them, tears streaming down silently.
She couldnât fathom Noahâs motives. Why had he brought Laura here and shown such concern? Was he seeking retribution for her departure years ago?
Morning light seeped through the curtains, casting slender beams across the floor. Sleep had eluded Sadie; dark circles marred her eyes. The digital clock on her nightstand displayed 6:37 in a harsh glow.
