Chapter 423
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 423:
Relief swept through Sadie like a wave. She bowed deeply, her voice thick with gratitude.
âThank you. Thank you so much.â
âThis is what we do,â the specialist replied warmly. âJust remember to look after yourself too. Your grandmother needs you strong.â
After the team departed, Sadie slumped into the chair beside the bed.
She watched Lauraâs calm expression, her breathing steady, and for the first time in days, the tightness in her chest began to ease.
Overwhelmed by exhaustion, Sadie slipped into a deep sleep next to the hospital bed without realizing it.
The sounds in the ward slowly faded to silence.
Meanwhile, in another VIP ward, Kyla shifted uncomfortably.
She had been waiting all afternoon for Noah, who had yet to appear.
âNoah, what on earth is keeping you?â Kyla muttered, flinging the magazine she was reading onto a nearby table in frustration.
At that moment, a nurse came in with a medical cart to change Kylaâs IV.
âMiss, do you happen to know where Noah is?â Kyla inquired, unable to hide her curiosity.
The nurse hesitated before responding cautiously. âMr. Wall⦠I believe he visited Mrs. Stewart earlier today.â
âMrs. Stewart?â Kylaâs brow furrowed. âWhat was he doing there?â
âThe word is he brought a team of specialists to consult on Mrs. Stewartâs case. I heard her condition was quite serious, but it has since stabilized, and thereâs talk she might regain consciousness soon,â the nurse explained as she expertly changed the IV.
âShe might regain consciousness?â Kylaâs complexion lost all color as she turned to face the nurse.

The possibility of Laura waking up filled her with dread. Would Laura tell Noah what she had done to her?
At the time, Kyla had merely intended to rattle Laura with some sharp words. Little did she anticipate that the elderly woman would be so shockingly frail, collapsing into a heart attack.
Kyla refused to accept blame for the incident.
However, recalling the cold stare Noah had given her still made Kyla shudder. She was determined not to let Laura regain consciousness.
A terrifying notion crossed Kylaâs mind.
Struggling to steady her nerves, Kyla walked over to the bedside table, grabbed her phone, and dialed a number she hadnât used in a while.
âHello, Willard? Itâs me,â she whispered, her voice barely steady.
From the other end came a rough voice, saying, âAh, Miss Wade. To what do I owe the pleasure today? Need something else taken care of?â
âI need a favor⦠I need someone gone,â Kyla replied, her voice tense.
âGone?â The voice chuckled. âThatâs a serious request, Miss Wade. Letâs talk about the termsâ¦â
âFive million,â Kyla said firmly, without a momentâs hesitation.
There was a brief pause before the other end responded with a scoff. âFive million for a life? Youâre not serious, Miss Wade.â
Desperation crept into Kylaâs voice.
This was no simple task, and the person on the line wasnât easy to persuade.
