Chapter 497
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 497:
But Alex couldnât let her do that. After all, this matter was between the Wall family and the Howe family. He didnât want to drag her into the mess.
Alex kneaded his throbbing temples and forced himself to focus on the documents before him. He needed to come up with a solution as soon as possible and keep his familyâs legacy from collapsing under his watch.
At that same moment, in the Howe Manor, the spacious and bright living room was filled with the rich aroma of food. Susannah stood in the dining hall in an exquisite dress, supervising the servants as they set the table.
Susannah looked much younger than her age, her figure well-maintained and her skin glowing with vitality. Today marked the return of her husband, Terrance Howe, chairman of Howe Group, from overseas. She had arranged for a grand family dinner to celebrate his return.
âMrs. Howe, dinner is ready. Would you like anything else?â a servant inquired respectfully.
Susannah nodded, pleased. âHmm, very good. Ensure the Kötl FreeâTerranceâs favoriteâis perfectly cooked; not too tough, yet not underdone.â
âUnderstood, Mrs. Howe. We will take care of it.â
Susannah gave the table setting a final inspection, only relaxing when everything met her exacting standards.
Suddenly, hurried footsteps resounded in the living room.
âAunt Susannah! Aunt Susannah!â
Her nephew, Lamont, appeared, urgency etched on his face. He was employed at Howe Group and maintained a good rapport with Alex.
âLamont? What brings you here?â Susannah questioned, her surprise evident. âWhatâs the matter? Why such anxiety?â
Catching his breath, Lamont blurted out, âAunt Susannah, thereâs a major problem. The Howe Group is facing a crisis.â

âWhat?â Susannah paled, her hand nearly dropping her silk handkerchief. âWhat did you say? A crisis? How?â Her voice rose sharply, trembling with panic.
âI⦠Iâm not entirely sureâ¦â Lamont hesitated, his voice faltering as he tried to compose himself. âI was with my wife at Viviâs studio. You remember Vivi, former chief designer at Majestic Ego, the renowned jewelry brand?â
Susannah nodded for him to proceed.
âWe were there to discuss some bespoke jewelry weâd ordered. During the visit, I accidentally overheard Vivi on the phone. She mentioned Sadie⦠it seemed to be connected to the Howe familyâ¦â
âSadie?â The name echoed in Susannahâs thoughts.
âSadie Hudson?â she exclaimed, her tone laced with disbelief.
âYes! Exactly! Thatâs the name.â Lamont confirmed with a slap to his thigh.
âVivi indicated that because of Sadie, the Howe Group has encountered trouble. She also mentioned the Wall Group has targeted usâ¦â
âThe Wall Group?â Susannahâs face grew somber. The name Noah Wall was practically legendary in business circlesâeverybody knew it. He was known for his ruthless and decisive strategies, his reputation preceding him. If the Wall Group was indeed targeting the Howe Group, the implications were dire. Susannah shuddered at the thought, her body beginning to quiver.
âWhereâs Alex? Is he aware of this issue?â she demanded, urgency coloring her voice.
âI donât know,â Lamont admitted, his expression one of confusion. âI came straight here to inform you after overhearing Viviâs phone call. Alex hasnât spoken to me about the company latelyâ¦â
