Chapter 622
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 622:
Noah swallowed the lump in his throat and was silent for a while. âKeep this news under wraps for now. Tell Samuel to keep an eye on the family branch in Zupren.â
âUnderstood, Mr. Wall.â
With that, the doctor took his leave, and Noah stepped into the hospital room.
Nigel had an oxygen mask on, the shadow of mortality looming over his hospital bed.
âGrandpa,â Noah called out softly as he sat by the bed and took the old manâs hand.
Nigel slowly opened his eyes. âYouâre here, Noah.â His voice was so weak, it was barely audible. âAnd whereâs Sadie?â
Noahâs eyes flickered. He bowed his head to avoid his grandfatherâs gaze. âSadie hasnât been feeling well lately. I thought it would be best to let her stay home and rest.â
Nigel peered at him for a few seconds, then sighed.
âNoah!â he chided, his voice suddenly clearer, louder. âYou must take good care of Sadie. Her grandfather was a benefactor to the Wall family. I have already failed him; you must not do the same to Sadie.â
Nigelâs voice rang out with authority, and he spoke each word with great emphasis.
Noahâs heart sank. His mind drifted back to three years ago.
At the time, Kyla had just returned from abroad, and she had accused Sadie of spreading rumors overseas to ruin her reputation, allegedly because of jealousy. Out of the debt he owed Kyla, Noah had always sought to take care of her, often at Sadieâs expense. He had neglected Sadie all those times, only for Kyla to conspire with Ryder to kill Sadie.
Noahâs expression darkened at that last thought. He took a deep breath and squared his shoulders, as if he had come to an important decision. âYou have nothing to worry about, Grandpa. I will take good care of Sadie. I will never let her suffer any grievances in this lifetime ever again.â
Nigel studied him for a moment before nodding in relief. Then he smiled, as if he were finally letting go of a long-held burden. âGood! Thatâs very good to know.â

In the days that followed, it seemed as though Noah had disappeared from the face of the earth. Sadie took care of all the funeral preparations on her own, relying on nothing but sheer determination.
She had lost some weight, and her eyes were constantly red at the corners, but she hadnât shed another tear so far.
At the funeral, Alex came by, his concern clear from the start. âI offer my condolences, Sadie,â he said softly, his voice kind and gentle as ever. âI hope you find peace amidst your loss.â
When Sadie looked at him, her eyes were vacant and distant. âThank you, Alex.â
Seeing her like this broke his heart. Alex wanted to gather her into his arms and offer some comfort, but he stopped himself at the last second. He didnât want to make her uncomfortable.
âIf you need help with anything, just let me know. Donât try to carry it all by yourself.â
âIâm fine,â Sadie replied. âTruly.â No matter how generous Alex was, she didnât want to burden him with her problems. More importantly, she didnât want to owe anyone anything.
âThank you for coming to see my grandma. You must be busy with work matters. You should head back.â
