Chapter 629
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 629:
Sadie stumbled forward, her hands shaking so violently that she could barely grip the pen. Her signature was nothing more than a series of jagged lines.
She wanted to ask about Noahâs state, but her throat tightened, making it impossible to speak.
The nurse, seeing no time to waste, turned and disappeared back into the operating room.
The doors swung shut once more.
Sadie lurched forward, but her knees buckled beneath her, sending her crashing to the floor in humiliation. Nearby, Isabel folded her arms, her lips curling in disdain. A sharp laugh escaped her. âHow dramatic.â The endless night stretched on.
At last, the operating room doors reopened.
A weary doctor stepped out, removing his mask with a deep exhale.
Isabelâs pulse quickened with fear.
She staggered forward, clutching the doctorâs arm, her voice raw with desperation. âDoctor, my sonâhow is he?â
The doctor regarded her trembling figure with sympathy. âMrs. Wall, we did everything possible. Mr. Wall suffered extensive injuries. We managed to stabilize him, butâ¦â His voice grew heavy. âThe damage to his central nervous system was severe. The chances of him regaining consciousness are extremely low.â
Isabel stood frozen, her mind rejecting his words. Her legs trembled as she nearly collapsed.
âNo⦠Thatâs not possible! You must be mistaken!â
The doctor lowered his gaze. âTo be blunt, he is in a vegetative state.â
Sadie, who had been clinging to the last shred of hope, felt her world shatter.
All hope, all expectations, vanished in that instant.
Her vision blurred, and before she could resist, she lost consciousness, her body collapsing backward.
âSadie!â Alex rushed forward, catching her just in time.
The weight in his arms was alarmingly light, her body drained of all strength.
Pressing a hand to her forehead, he flinchedâshe was burning up. Alexâs heart clenched. Without hesitation, he scooped her up and sprinted toward the emergency room.
Isabel remained fixated on her own grief, too consumed to notice anything else. Forcing herself upright, she seized Samuelâs arm. âSamuel, I recall that in Zupren, thereâs a highly regarded facilityâRosewood Hospital. They specialize in treating coma patients. Arrange for Noahâs immediate transfer.â
Samuel hesitated briefly. âMadam, should we inform Mrs. Sadie Wall?â
âShut your mouth!â Isabel snapped, venom flashing in her eyes. âShe doesnât need to know. Just handle it.â
Samuel dared not protest. With a quick nod, he replied, âUnderstood. Iâll see to it at once.â
He cast a glance toward the emergency room before hurrying away.
Inside the emergency room.
âMr. Howe, thereâs no need to worry. She collapsed due to exhaustion and a high fever. An IV has been administered, and with enough rest, she should regain consciousness soon,â the doctor assured. Alex exhaled slowly, some of the tension easing from his face.
âAlright, you may leave now.â
