Chapter 64
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 64:
As Sadie gripped Lauraâs delicate hand, her tears began to flow.
âGrandma, itâs such a relief to see your eyes open! I was terrified when you collapsed. What caused your heart attack?â Sadieâs voice trembled with emotion.
Laura had always been healthy, with no history of heart issues, making the attack even more baffling to Sadie.
With her other hand, Laura reached out to brush away Sadieâs tears. Her own eyes brimmed with tears, too.
âSadie, have you been keeping secrets from me?â Laura whispered weakly.
Frozen by the question, Sadie responded, âWhat?â
Lauraâs eyes searched Sadieâs, filled with deep concern.
âHave you been involved with another womanâs man?â Lauraâs words were heavy with grief, and her tears flowed freely. âItâs my fault. I failed to keep you safe.â
Confusion clouded Sadieâs expression, and her anxiety mounted. âGrandma, why would you think that? Who has been filling your head with such lies?â Sadieâs voice rose in frustration.
Laura continued, âSomeone delivered photos and a letter to my doorstep. They showed you being held by a man as you entered his car.â
Sadie gasped.
A man was holding her? Entering a car?
âAnd the letter accused you of stealing this womanâs husband,â Laura said with effort, each word seeming to drain her strength. âIt warned that you must end it, or suffer the consequences.â
A chill crept down Sadieâs spine, leaving her momentarily speechless as she scrambled for the right words.
Lauraâs eyes locked onto Sadieâs forehead, and her face paled with horror. âYouâre injured? Did that person come after you to settle the score?â

Her voice quivered, thick with fear and panic. âSweetheart, listenâstay out of someone elseâs marriage. You need to cut ties with that man immediately.â
With each word, Lauraâs anxiety swelled, her breaths growing ragged as her chest rose and fell in frantic waves.
Sadie felt as though an invisible fist had clenched around her heart, squeezing until it became hard to breathe.
âGrandma, itâs not like that,â she said, her voice shaky despite her best efforts to steady it.
But Lauraâs doubtful gaze didnât waver, and Sadie exhaled deeply, the weight of misunderstanding pressing down on her. âWhere are the photos?â she asked softly.
Laura pointed towards her clothes. âIn my pocket.â
After she left the resuscitation room, a nurse had swapped her clothes for a sterile patient gown. The nurse had then placed her belongings in this ward.
Sadie stepped over to the clothes, her hands fumbling through the fabric until her fingertips brushed against something stiff and glossy.
She pulled out the photos.
There, frozen in glossy stillness, were images of her and Noah.
His arm was wrapped around her waist, shielding her in a way that felt far too intimate. The closeness between them was undeniable, almost tender.
Sadieâs breath caught in her throat.
She couldnât even recall a moment when sheâd been that close to Noah.
A bitter knot twisted in her chest, rising like bile.
How was she supposed to explain this to Laura?
If she confessed the truthâthat the man in the photos was her husbandâthen when the inevitable divorce happened, it would only make the situation worse.
