Chapter 669
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 669:
He fought to control his anger.
This was not the time for rash actions.
Focusing on more pressing matters, he turned to Sutton with an icy tone.
âWhatâs the status with our deal with the Burgess Group?â
Sutton, feeling uneasy, knew he couldnât reveal Haileyâs indifferent response.
He mustered his composure and responded, âAll is going well.â
Coyle eyed him and then nodded, apparently appeased.
âThe deal with the Burgess Group must succeed,â he said firmly. âAnd tell Briley to speed things up.â
âYes, I understand.â Sutton bowed his head, concealing the worry in his eyes.
Coyle dismissed him with a wave.
Sutton felt a momentary sense of relief as he quickly left the room. As soon as the door shut behind him, he exhaled deeply, feeling the cold sweat soaking his back.
He knew he had to find a way to manage Hailey effectively. He couldnât let Sadie enjoy her triumph for too long. Eventually, he was determined to reclaim everything he believed was rightfully his.
Meanwhile, after a dayâs work, Sadie returned to Wall Manor.

Alex was already at the entrance when Sadie arrived.
As her car pulled up, he stepped forward.
âSadie, my condolences,â he said, his voice filled with concern. He had heard about the recent events and wanted to offer her a comforting embrace, but he hesitated, unsure of her reception.
âTry not to dwell in sorrow for too long. The dead canât return. I know itâs hard, but if you need anything, Iâm here for you.â
He paused, then added more softly yet with resolve, âIâll always be here for you.â
For the past three years, Alex had been a constant presence by Sadieâs side.
Now, with Noah gone, he wondered if his opportunity had finally arisen.
âSadie, Iâve heard about the trouble with the Burgess Group,â he began, then hesitated before making a bold suggestion. âIf youâd consider itâI mean, only if you think itâs rightâI could marry you. A union between us could deter any further schemes.â
Alex knew his proposal might appear opportunistic, but he couldnât wait.
He hoped to be more than just a friend; he wanted to be Sadieâs partner for life.
Sadie looked momentarily taken aback.
She met his gaze, her eyes calm and distant.
âAlex, thank you,â she said gently. âI appreciate your sincerity and all that youâve done these last three years. But I cannot accept your proposal.â
Her tone was firm, resolute.
While grateful for what Alex had done for her, she did not love him.
It wouldnât be right to marry out of gratitude.
âYouâve been a true friend. I need to handle the company issues myself. But thank you, really. Donât worry about me.â
She then turned and walked into Wall Manor without looking back.
Alex stood there, a bitter smile playing on his lips.
He should have realized Sadieâs heart was still with Noah. Despite his best efforts, he couldnât bridge the distance to her heart. A sense of defeat and helplessness washed over him.
Meanwhile, unnoticed in the shadows, a sleek red sports car sat parked. Briley, inside the driverâs seat, had watched the exchange quietly. She hadnât expected Alexâs deep devotion, much less a marriage proposal in such circumstances. How utterly romantic!
