Chapter 76
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 76:
Taking a deep, steadying breath, Sadie continued, her tone steady but filled with unrestrained anguish. âWhile I was facing the most dangerous moment of my life, you cut off my only lifeline. And now, here you are, pretending to care, as if nothing happened. Do you even realize how ridiculous that is?â
Each accusation hit Noah like a dagger. A sinking feeling gripped himâsomething important was slipping through his fingers.
âSadie, please understand, it wasnât like that,â Noah pleaded, his voice breaking. âAt that time, Kyla wasâ¦â His voice cracked, his regrets choking the words before they could escape.
Kyla had had a heart attack, and he needed to be there for her, to hold her hand so she couldnât remove the oxygen maskâbut it didnât have to be him. At the same time, Sadie was on the verge of death, her life hanging by a thread, and he was the one who could have saved her.
Noahâs forehead glistened with cold sweat as the weight of his mistake began to settle in.
Filled with regret, Noahâs voice faltered, his words tumbling out in a desperate plea for redemption. âIf only Iâd known about the accident, I would have been there to save you.â
But Sadieâs face remained stoic, her voice cutting through the air like ice. âThereâs no room for what-ifs here. The reality is what it is. You should go. I need to rest.â
Fear gripped Noah, a fear that leaving might sever their bond forever. Resolute, he positioned himself at Sadieâs bedside, his voice steady but soft. âIâll stay right here. Iâll take care of you.â
As he spoke, a delicate fragrance lingered around himâunmistakably Kylaâs perfumeâadding an unspoken tension to the air.
Sadieâs stomach roiled with unease. She was deeply unsettled by the thought that Noah, after spending time with Kyla, had the audacity to feign concern for her.
With a sharp twist of her body, she faced away and snapped, âGet the hell out of here!â

Alex wasted no time stepping in. He firmly grasped Noahâs arm, pulling him aside while his voice carried a stern warning. âSadie just regained consciousness after the accident. If you actually care about her, donât make this harder on her right now!â
Noahâs brow furrowed deeply, his face a mask of impassivity as he settled into a chair beside the bed, simmering silently. Alexâs words felt like a deliberate taunt, stoking the embers of resentment within him.
Without hesitation, Sadie pressed the emergency call button.
Within moments, a nurse hurried into the room, her expression one of concern. âWhatâs the matter? Are you in pain?â
Pointing an accusing finger at Noah, Sadie declared, âHeâs disturbing my peace. Could you please ask him to leave?â
The nurseâs demeanor shifted to one of professional firmness as she turned to Noah. âThis is a hospital. We prioritize our patientâs recovery above all else. I must ask you to leave now. If you refuse, we will have to prohibit you from future visits.â
With a reluctant heave of his shoulders, Noah stood up and took a few begrudging steps towards the door. Pausing, he threw a challenging look back at Alex and demanded, âArenât you leaving too?â
Alexâs response was cool and measured. âSadie asked for you to leave, not me.â
Noahâs fury surged once more, his fists clenching tightly as he turned back, ready to confront Alex again.
The nurse grabbed Noahâs arm. âThis is a hospital, not a stage for your drama!â
With a decisive tug, she escorted Noah out of the room. The door slammed shut with a resonant thud, sealing him off.
The corridor was silent, save for the whistle of the cold wind that seeped through an open window at its end. The chill it brought barely compared to the deeper cold spreading through Noah.
