Chapter 808
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 808:
Evanâs smile was a little tight.
âIs there something you need, Hailey? Why did you reach out to me all of a sudden?â
His tone was courteous but made it clear they were far from being close.
Haileyâs eyes practically twinkled as her smile widened.
âHave a seat first, why donât you? Letâs catch up and chat over a meal.â
Evan nodded graciously and sat down.
As he settled into his seat, he remembered something.
âBy the way, I heard you got married recently. I have yet to meet your husband, but Iâve heard that heâs quite a catch. People say you two are perfect for each other.â
His comment seemed to touch a nerve with Hailey. Her smile dimmed, and she let out a weary, almost sorrowful sigh.
âHeâs very good to me, butâ¦â
Hailey trailed off and batted her eyelashes as though she were deeply aggrieved.
âThe thing is, Patrick only fell in love with me because he lost his memory in an accident three years ago. Iâm just⦠Iâm really scared that one day heâll regain his memory and leave me.â
By the time she finished speaking, the corners of her eyes had turned red, making her look as pitiful as ever.
Evanâs brow furrowed slightly. Just like he had said, he had never met Patrick before, but he had heard a lot about him, and from what he had surmised, the man didnât seem like the type to discard his relationships so easily.
âYou shouldnât worry about such things, Hailey. I donât think he would do that to you.â
Hailey wiped nonexistent tears from her cheeks.
âI trust him, of course, but thereâs this wretched woman whoâs constantly meddling with our marriage! She just keeps inserting herself into his business, pulling every trick in the book to get his attention! I canât help but worry!â
Then she suddenly leaned over the table, her eyes wide with expectation as she fixed them on Evan.

âArenât you doing research on deep hypnosis these days? I heard that it can make someone forget their past completely and live like a totally new person. Is that true?â
She had barely gotten the last word out when Evan raised his hand.
âHailey!â he said, his tone sharp and reprimanding, his expression dark.
âThe purpose of my researchââ
ââ¦is to help in the recovery of those who are in a vegetative state. My goal is to help them rebuild their cognitive functions, not to serve one personâs selfish desires to alter or erase anotherâs memories!â
Evanâs disappointment was written all over his face.
