Chapter 879
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 879:
Nathanâs admiration deepened. She wasnât just cleverâshe was lethal when she needed to be.
Rodgerâs face darkened noticeably. For a moment, he said nothing. Then he reached for his coffee cup and took a slow sip, coughing lightly to buy himself time and soften the rising tension.
âMs. Hudson,â he said carefully, his voice low and measured, âyou must understand⦠Nathan is too young. He shows promise, of course, but he doesnât yet have the experience to take on such an important role.â He was still trying to hold the line. This was his last stand.
Sadie said nothing, her eyes fixed steadily on Rodger, silently watching to see what move he would make next.
Rodgerâs gaze darted around the room. He was clearly searching for a solution. Then, clearing his throat, he finally said, âHow about this, Ms. Hudson? Our company currently has a vacancy in the general manager role. Perhaps Nathan could join the Higgins Group and take on that positionâget some practical experience under his belt. As for the cooperation with the Wall Group, we can revisit the discussion once heâs settled into the role. Would that be acceptable to you?â
It was a retreat, a calculated one. Offering Nathan the general manager post was Rodgerâs way of throwing Sadie a boneâa visible sign of compromise. In his mind, it was fair.
Nathan was family, after all. Giving him a position with a respectable title seemed like a reasonable gesture. But Sadieâs expression didnât shift.
Just as Rodger began to hope she might agree, a low chuckle broke the silence. It was Noah. He had been silent until nowâwatching from the sidelines.
Sadieâs brows drew together, a flicker of annoyance passing through her eyes as she turned to him. What was he doing? Was he trying to sabotage her leverage?

Her eyes flicked toward him, a silent warning telling him not to interfere.
But Noah either didnât see it, or simply didnât care.
âDonât you think your terms lean a bit too heavily in your favor, Ms. Hudson?â His tone was calmâtoo calmâlacking even a hint of emotion. âAfter all, with the two families on the verge of merging, any true collaboration should be built on sincerity,â Noah said smoothly. âProposing that Nathan take the lead while sidelining Jarrett feels⦠a bit inappropriate, donât you think?â
To anyone listening, it sounded as though Noah was defending the Higgins familyâs internal balanceâperhaps even advocating for Jarrett.
Sadie blinked, momentarily thrown. What was he up to now?
Across the room, Rodger and Jarrett exchanged startled looks, clearly baffled by Noahâs words.
But Noah didnât bother to acknowledge their confusion. He simply continued, as if laying out the most reasonable suggestion in the world. âIn my view, why not let Nathan and Jarrett co-manage the projects? Theyâre both heirs of the Higgins familyâequal in name and legacy. Wouldnât it be more appropriate if they shared the position of chairman?â The silence that followed was instant and heavy.
