Chapter 1097
Mr. Kane Got Blacklisted
Darcie came out with a coat when she heard the sound of the car engine arriving at the house.
Wenham had gotten out of the car and was holding the door as he spoke to the person inside. At the same time, Darcie called out to him.
Wenham turned his head around and said, âWhy are you still awake?â
Darcie walked over, put the coat over his shoulders, and said in a soft voice, âI couldnât fall asleep without you here. How was it? Did all of you have a good talk?â
Wenham vaguely responded to her questions as he turned to Trevor and said, âPay attention to the road and drive safely.â
Before Trevor could reply, Darcie said, âItâs very late. Are you sure you donât want to stay for the night?
Iâll have the guest room cleaned up for you.â
âItâs okay, Darcie. I have some work at the company, and I have to go there for a sec. You two should get some rest.â
âYou have work at this time of the night?â Darcie sighed.â Alright then. Take care and be safe. If you ever need anything, just come here, okay?â
âOkay,â Trevor replied with a smile. However, when he pulled up the windows, his smile faded away. âIâll have the guest room cleaned up,â he mocked in his heart, and his gaze gradually turned cold.
After Trevor had left, Darcie gently rubbed her arms.
Wenham took off his coat and put it over her shoulders. â Letâs head inside. Itâs cold out here.â
Jaylene was on her phone in the living room at that time. As soon as they entered the house, Darcie called for Jaylene, and she stood up. âDad, youâre back,â she said.
Wenham was a little surprised that her daughter was still up. âWhy arenât you in bed? Itâs late.â
âMom was worried about you and refused to sleep, so I accompanied her. I had a short nap while we waited, but Mom didnât even blink.â
Wenham felt sorry for keeping them waiting. âI told you to go to bed without me since I would come home late. Why didnât you listen?â
Darcie lowered her head and smiled. âDonât listen to Jaylene. I was watching TV. Thatâs why I couldnât sleep.â
âNo, dad. Remember the time you almost got into an accident on your way home a few years ago?
Since then, Mom has always waited for you to come home before she goes to sleep. Iâve seen it with my own eyes. She turns off the bedroom lights only when your car arrives.â
âYou kids are so annoying nowadays,â Darcie snapped.
Jaylene shrugged and said, âWell, youâre the one who asked me to stay up with you.â When she said that, her phone vibrated. She looked at her phone, picked it up, and stated,â Iâm going to bed now.â
Wenham had mixed feelings about the situation. After a long time, he said, âTil call or text next time when Iâm on the road. You should rest earlier. Thereâs no need to wait for me.
Darcie smiled and said, âIâm used to it. I canât lose to Freesia. I donât like being compared, and I donât like losing to her when it comes to you.â
Wenham paused and pursed his lips. âYouâre different in your own ways. No oneâs comparing the two of you.â
âI donât want to replace her, nor do I want you to forget her. On the contrary, I appreciate her and cherish everything I have now. I wouldnât have met you if it wasnât for her.â Darcie paused before she continued, âI know your dad and the others have their opinions about me. But I really want to meet them and do my filial duties.â
Wenham sighed. âThey donât have a problem with you. They have a problem with me, but things are better now. After they meet the child, sheâs going to become the lubricant in the family. Iâll take you to meet my parents once our relationship is restored.â
âChild? What child?â
