Chapter 132
Mr. Kane Got Blacklisted
Dahlia scowled, âAm I conservative now? Come on! Thereâs a limit even to having fun. There are tons of eyes on the Kane family. When she acts inappropriately, and it gets around, weâll be plagued by rumors every day. People will think this is what the Kane family is all about!â
Keeganâs head ached while he was listening to Dahliaâs nagging. He turned to Stella and said, â Get me some water.â
Stella handed Keegan the water she had just bought. He grabbed the bottle, unscrewed the cap, and took a couple of gulps. Dahlia noticed his pale complexion and stopped her rant. Instead, she asked, âWhat brings you to the hospital so early in the morning?â
âIâm here to visit a friend,â Keegan answered briefly. He then asked, âWhy did you bring Stella here for a check-up? Wasnât she just checked two months ago?â
Dahlia composed herself when the topic shifted. âItâs just a routine check-up. Sheâs been taking that fertility drink for a while now. I just want to see if it had any effect. Mrs. Valleâs son got married last year, and now her daughter-in-law is almost due. You two have been married for three years now, and still no kids. So Iâm just more concerned than you two are.â
Obviously, Dahlia was implying Stella was at fault.
Keegan remained nonchalant. âItâs not something that happens overnight. The fertility drink hasnât done anything even after all this time. So maybe sheâs not getting pregnant because sheâs taken too much of it.â
Stella did not know what to say. âItâs true that I donât want to take that awful fertility drink. But I canât believe Keegan would say that! How shameless! The hell I canât get pregnant when heâs the one refusing to sleep with me!â
Not only would Keegan spend nights with her only once a couple of months, but he would also deliberately avoid her ovulation period. So even if Stella was fertile, it was pointless without his cooperation.
Dahlia got angry. âWhat do you mean she canât get pregnant because of taking too much fertility drink?
I went through a lot of trouble to get it. Who am I working so hard for? I wouldnât have to go through all this effort if she were fertile.â
Seeing that mother and son were about to quarrel, Stella tried to calm Dahlia, âPlease donât be upset, Dahlia. Iâll make sure to drink the fertility drink on a schedule. Here, have some water.â
But Dahlia pushed Stellaâs hand away and said coldly, âI mustâve been meddling too much. From now on, you two can handle your problems. I donât want to waste my time and energy only to be criticized later.â
With that, Dahlia stormed out of the room with a stern face.
As soon as Dahlia left, Stella stopped pretending and said flatly, âCall Aldor to pick you up. Iâm leaving now.â
Keeganâs face darkened. âYouâre gonna leave me after what youâve done to me?â
âItâs just a nosebleed. Itâs not like youâve lost a limb. What do you expect me to do? Babysit you?â
Keeganâs face darkened, âDonât you have any sense of guilt? Who was I just speaking for?â
âI have plenty of guilt. Weâre getting a divorce, but I still have to put on a show for your family and endure your motherâs insults and false accusations against me!â said Stella.
Keeganâs remarks hit a raw nerve with Stella. Or perhaps, she had been bottling up her emotions for a long time. Once she found an outlet, she could no longer contain herself.
She added, âAnd now, you have a nosebleed, and someone is worried about you. She even got angry at me on your behalf! What about me? I was in a car accident and couldnât even reach you. Can you imagine how I felt when the nurse asked me why my family wasnât there with me in the hospital? I couldnât help but wonder. If I had died that day, would anyone even come to collect my body?â
Keeganâs anger dissipated as he asked, âWhy didnât you tell me about the car accident when you called me that day?â
Stella smirked, thinking, âSo he knew.â
âWhat difference would it have made? Would you have left Ms. Young for me?â
Keegan fell silent.
Stella was disappointed that Keegan did not even bother to lie to her.
âGood,â Stella said with a smile. âThat just confirms I made the right decision.â
