Chapter 1364
Mr. Kane Got Blacklisted
Keegan understood what Carter meant and said, âIâll call you back later.â
After the call ended, Lena looked at Carter and asked, âWhat is it about?â
âNothing much. He just wants to have a drink with me because itâs been a while since we met.â
âGo ahead then. Iâll get something to eat around here and get a cab back myself,â Lena said.
âNo way.â Carter immediately rejected her suggestion. âIâll stay with you for a while first.â
Lena felt helpless. There was nothing she could do to change how clingy Carter was, but she kind of liked it too.
Carter leaned in and kissed her on the lips. âLena, why donât you switch to another less demanding position? Youâve been working overtime so frequently; it isnât good for your health. Look, youâve lost weight again.â
Lena lowered her gaze and said, âThis is my field of expertise. What else can I do other than this?â
âYou could work in the management department. Itâs less tiring.â
In that way, not only that Lena would not have to put herself in danger on the front lines, but it was also the easiest path to get a promotion.
It would probably be difficult for Lena to make the switch with her own capabilities, but Carter had all the connections. It would be effortless for him to help her with it.
However, Lena did not want that as she said in a low voice,â The management role will need me to interact with living people, and Iâm only good at dealing with the dead. Iâm not very good with words. Itâll be hard for me to deal with so many different people, let alone using official terms to handle the media.â
She paused before asking softly, âIs it because your parents want me to switch careers?â
âNo.â Carter brushed her hair that fell on her cheek to the back of her ear and said, âI just donât want you to drain yourself. It was just a suggestion. Iâll support you no matter what others say if you want to work in this field.â
Lenaâs chilly gaze softened as she hugged Carter and gently kissed him.
âIf we have children in the future, and the job is still as busy as now, Iâll consider switching to management.â
Carter was taken aback by her response. A faint smile appeared, and he said, âOkay.â
After eating and sending Lena back home, Carter called Keegan. He asked directly, âAre you a friend of the victim of this case?â
âIâm not, but I know who he is and how he was murdered.â
The case had been widely spread. Keegan figured that Hylda would definitely start escaping, judging by how clever she was.
Although Keegan knew about the truth behind Walterâs death, he could not provide the police with the audio recording he heard earlier. The case would become much more complicated if he was involved.
The police had limited efficiency, and Keegan was worried that Hylda might already be gone before they sorted out the facts.
So, he needed Carter to do what he did best and present the evidence to solve the case as soon as possible.
Keegan told his entire plan to Carter. Carter kept quiet for a while before he finally spoke. âCan you find something legal for me to do next time?â
âHackers are meant to break the law. Thatâs how they showcase their skills.â Keegan said indifferently.
Carter pointed a middle finger at him.
Keegan gazed at him. âYou never did this before.â
Carter paused and swept his gaze across him. âI only did that because I respected you back then.
However, it seems like youâre not a respectable person, so I wonât do that anymore.â
Keegan stood up and buttoned his suit. Then, he looked at Carter and said, âBoth of you are the same.â
Carter ignored what he said. âIâll help you again for your wife -because your ex-wife helped Lena before. However, youâll have to pay me the next time you ask for my help again.â
Keegan was speechless.
âHmph.â Keegan scoffed and corrected him. âSheâs my fiancee, not my ex-wife.â
He then showed the engagement ring on his finger to the camera and spoke somewhat proudly. âStella bought this engagement ring for me.â
