Sophia could not sell the shares she had bought and could not turn them into cash to repay Ethan. So, the Shaw family was now hounding her for the money.

Even worse, Ethan had also posted plenty of Sophia’s private photos in their circle, threatening to release all the uncensored ones online if she failed to pay up. He wanted to show everyone how slutty she looked around men.

Sophia did not dare to speak harshly to Ethan anymore and had no choice but to beg him for more time.

She spent two days tracking down Albert and finally saw him around his office.

Compared to the miserable state she and her mother were in, Albert looked relatively radiant.

As soon as he heard that Sophia came to him for money, he immediately said, “Your mother took all the money, and she’s nowhere to be found. I’m worried too. Do you think I would keep all the money to myself if I had them? You’re my own daughter, after all.”

Sophia could not contact Hylda at all, but it did not mean that Albert could fool her with his words.

She could not help but scold her father when she heard his lies. “The details of the case have been messed up. The driver asked for two million. Don’t you have two million?

Why did you have to take eight million from me and sell me shares in a shell company that can’t even make a profit? Even if you did give two million to the driver, what about the remaining six million? Are you trying to send me to my death?”

Albert still did not want to give her any money, and he scolded, “The Shaw family is being unreasonable. You and Ethan were going to get married. How can they do this? I was going to treat them very well after you get married.”

“I don’t care about what’s going to happen in the future. I just need the money now! Ethan wants to expose my private photos, and he’s turning on me. How am I supposed to live if those photos went public?!”

Sophia got so angry that her face turned pale. “Are you going to give me money or not?!’ she gritted her teeth and spoke.

Albert pursed his lips. “Eight million dollars is not a small amount. Tell Ethan to wait a little longer. Once the company settles the accounts for this quarter, I’ll pay you back for the shares you bought no matter what.’

Sophia immediately calmed down.

Her mother was right about Albert being a selfish and selfserving man. He had never intended for her to take over the company. Even if he did not have a son, he would simply find another male descendant of the Jewell family to inherit the company. He would never give her the company.

She was nothing but a tool for making the Jewell family strong.

Stella faced the same fate, and so did she.

Sophia even had it worse than Stella, who had never experienced the fake fatherly love of Albert and got married to a decent man.

As for Sophia, she was about to be dragged into some serious trouble.

Her gaze turned cold with those thoughts in mind.

After parting ways with Albert, she immediately went to Xenia’s place.

Xenia heard somebody knocking on her door and immediately checked the surveillance camera. Then, she informed Stella after seeing that it was Sophia.

[Sophia came to see me.]

Stella had been monitoring the situation on Xenia’s side, as they were approaching the final stages of their plan.

Stella read the message from Xenia and quickly texted back. [Albert tricked her for money, and someone is pressuring her to pay her debt. She’s probably going to use you as leverage to threaten Albert.]

Xenia frowned. [Should I still open the door, then?]

[Forget about it. I’m scared that she might hurt you.]
