Darcie whispered, “You shouldn’t have gone so far anyway. I just received updates that the Kane family has dropped all the search and rescue teams. It won’t be long before they publicly announce his death.”

Wenham was taken aback. “So soon?” he said.

“It’s been almost a month. The entire Kane family has been through a lot, and it’s time forthem to have closure.

Wenham felt a pang of sorrow and remained silent for a longtime.

Stella had waited for Keegan’s return, but she received news of his tragic fate through an announcement from the Kane family instead.

The Kane family had told the public about Keegan’s accident, and his memorial service was scheduled for the day after tomorrow.

Stella stared at the words on her phone and felt a sense of suffocation overwhelming her. It felt as if she was being choked, and her head became dizzy and heavy. Every word on the screen seemed as though it was spinning, and she could not comprehend what the announcement was saying at all.

A wave of nausea hit her. She rushed to the bathroom, bent over the sink, and dry-heaved.

Felicity got worried and immediately followed her. She stroked Stella’s back and concernedly asked, “Stella, are you okay?”

Stella rinsed her mouth, and she held herself up on the sink with both hands. At the same time, her eyes felt sore.

She did not say anything. Instead, she took her phone and dialed Cordelia’s number. The call went through this time, but it was Baldwin’s voice that she heard.

“Ms. Hall, how may I help you?”

Baldwin’s tone sounded distant and nonchalant. He had probably seen the recent news and lost the sense of familiarity he had for her.

Stella replied in a hoarse voice, “Baldwin, Keegan isn’t dead. Please tell grandma that the funeral cannot be held.”

Baldwin remained silent for a moment and then said in a flat tone, “Ms. Hall, this is the Kane family’s matter. I’m sure that Mrs. Kane Sr. has her own considerations.”

Stella’s face instantly turned pale.

She knew that this would happen since the moment she used Marshall to create rumors, but she did not care.

“Baldwin, please beg grandma for me. Ask her to wait for another month. No, just half a month will do.

We’ll keep looking. The river is not that big, so how can we not find him? I know he’s still alive. Baldwin, please…”

Stella almost choked up at the end. Compared to Keegan’s disappearance, the fact that everyone assumed that Keegan was dead was something that Stella found the most heartbreaking.

Baldwin sighed and said after a long pause, “Come over the day after tomorrow to say your last goodbye to Mr. Kane. Regardless, I’m sure that he would want you to be happy.”

He ended the call after saying that.

Stella listened blankly to the beeping tone on the other end, and her heart broke.

Felicity looked at her ghostly white face and whispered,” Stella, let me take you to the hospital.” 3 Stella’s health had deteriorated over the past few days. Her appetite had been extremely poor, and she would vomit right after eating. Today was the most severe, and it made Felicity very worried.

“I’m fine. It’s probably because I skipped breakfast,” Stella wiped her face and said softly. “Felicity, come with me the day after tomorrow.”

Keegan’s corpse was not found, so the memorial service was held at the Kane residence instead of a funeral parlor.
