Chapter 1694
Mr. Kane Got Blacklisted
âKeegan, if youâve got a bone to pick, just lay it out straight. Thereâs no need for these cryptic jabs. If youâre wondering where Stella was when you went missing, I can fill you in,â Marshallâs voice cut through the tension.
âYou got shoved into the river, and she jumped right in after you without hesitation. You were missing, and she wasnât doing any better either. She had a high fever for three consecutive days and was covered in frostbite!
âYou were nowhere to be found, and she did not know what to do. She even turned to divine intervention, scaling a steep mountain just to carve your name on a stone, believing it would bring you back safely!â Marshall continued.
âEnoughâ¦â Stellaâs voice wavered as she spoke softly.
Marshallâs expression stayed stern, but his tone grew more emotional, âThe path to the summit is only about 12 inches wide. One wrong step, and she couldâve died! You refused to come out of hiding for the sake of luring out the person behind your kidnapping. And now youâre asking where she was during your disappearance? You should be grateful sheâs alive! How dare you blame her?!â
Seeing things unfold, Dahlia realized that Keegan genuinely did not remember Stella. Not just that, but he probably did not recall many other things, like when he kicked her out of the Kane residence and when she drugged Stella, causing her infertility.
As soon as Marshall finished speaking, Dahlia spoke up,â Well, arenât you Mr.
Know-It-All? Iâve never heard nor seen anything you said. All I know is that she was eager to get involved with you after Keegan went missing. You two went parachuting and skiing and even attended a concert together. Why would she do that with another man if she truly cared about Keegan?â
âShut your filthy mouth, Dahlia!â Trevor sternly interjected.â You tried to reduce the manpower in the search and rescue team two weeks after Keeganâs accident. If we hadnât continued sending more people out there to look for him, Iâm sure you wouldâve arranged his funeral by now.â
Wenhamâs demeanor became serious. This was the first time he did not step in as Trevor challenged an elder. It was clear that Dahlia had pushed him to his limits.
Dahliaâs expression changed when she heard that. Fearing that Keegan would hold a grudge against her, she hastily said, âThe rescue team suggested reducing manpower, emphasizing that the optimal rescue time had passed.
They said that he would likely be dead even if we found him. I was simply following their advice. Do any of you know the pain I felt from having to think about my own sonâs funeral?â
Tears welled in her eyes as she said, âI would never give up on you, Keegan. I was losing sleep thinking about you. I thank God for hearing my prayers. Thank goodness youâre safe. Otherwise, how would Aurora and I go on without you.â
Upon hearing that, Felicity could not hold herself back. She bit the hand that was covering her mouth and said, âStop with the nonsense, you crazy old hag!
How dare you try to shift the blame onto others! You were in a rush to declare Keegan dead and claim his inheritance two weeks into his disappearance. If Keegan hadnât written Stella down as his primary heir, he would have come back to nothing! How dare -Mm-â
Before she could finish her words, Vermont covered her mouth again.
Dahlia looked suspicious and angrily scolded, âYou despicable woman! Youâre the one whoâs spouting nonsense! n âFu- Off- You- Mm-â
Vermont smiled apologetically and said, âSheâs had a bit too much to drink. All of you may continue.â
Felicity squirmed in his arms and almost slipped. That was when he decided to lift her and carry her out of the room.
Keegan remained unfazed, seemingly unbothered by Felicityâs disrespectful words toward Dahlia.
Having detached herself from her perplexing emotions a while ago, Stella gazed at the man before her.
He looked the same, yet his attitude was not. âKeegan, I need to speak with you privately,â she said in a serious voice.
