Chapter 48
Mr. Kane Got Blacklisted
âLetâs grab a meal first. You can think while we eat. If you really canât remember, weâll hire a private investigator. Weâll avenge your mom.â
Stella laughed.
âIf my mother were conscious, she wouldâve fought Albert to the very end and turned the world upside down. Sheâs someone who canât tolerate infidelity. I donât want things to get to that point; I just want to figure out who that woman is and why I find her so familiar,â she thought.
The following day, Stella was woken up by her phone in the middle of her slumber.
She frowned and picked up the phone. Then, she groggily said, âHello? Whoâs this?â
âYouâre not awake yet, Stella?â
Stella was instantly terrified by the womanâs steady voice on the other end. She hastily got up from the bed and cleared her throat before she said in a low voice, âDahlia? Whatâs wrong?â
Dahlia responded coolly, âA few of my friends are coming over today. Come over and help me entertain them.â
Stella was incredibly reluctant.
Dahliaâs friends were all wealthy ladies. Since Dahlia had never been good with handling these people, she naturally did not want to go.
She refused and said, âIsnât Keegan home? Heâs more capable of interacting with older women. Iâm not very eloquent, so Iâm worried that itâll be awkward.â
âKeegan went out with his friends. Otherwise, I wouldnât have asked you to come. Youâll interact with plenty of people in the future when you go out with Keegan. Donât tell me youâre always going to avoid them? If people hear about this, they would think that the Kane familyâs daughterâinâlaw is undignified.â
Stella stopped talking.
âCome over as soon as youâre ready,â Dahlia said.
Then, she hung up.
Stella had no choice but to get ready and head to Dahliaâs place.
Dahlia used to be a socialite in Rivera in her younger days. After she married into the Kane family, her social circle and status gradually expanded along with the prominence of the Kane family. She often had gatherings with the ladies that were acquainted with the Kane familyâs business. Rather than catching up, they were actually probing each other and exchanging information.
The things that men could not say directly were best secretly conveyed by women.
The three ladies arrived around 10 oâclock. Stella had met Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Chapman before and sort of knew them. However, she had not seen Mrs. White before, so the woman looked somewhat unfamiliar.
Stella could not tell the difference between Mrs. White and the other two ladies solely from their attire.
However, when the few were talking, Stella could evidently tell that Mrs. White was more arrogant.
Aside from that, Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Chapman were obviously easing up on her. Dahlia also seemed closer to Mrs. White than to others.
When Stella brought the fruit platter over, Mrs. White looked up and gave her a onceâover. Then, she said slowly, âSo, this is your daughterâinâlaw, Dalia. Sheâs quite the looker.â
Dahlia smiled coolly but did not respond.
After setting down the fruit platter, Stella left.
Mrs. Chapman waited for Stella before she asked, âDahlia, about the medicine previously, was it effective? Any news?â
âThereâs no news yet.â
âHow many doctors has it been? She should be pregnant by now. Does she have some kind of condition?â
Dahlia lowered her gaze and slowly said, âHer medical checkup showed that she was fine. I, too, donât know why she isnât getting pregnant.â
âHow sinister. Donât tell me that her and Keeganâs horoscopes are incompatible?â
Mrs. Wood said, âDo we even need to look at their horoscope? None of it was up to par with the Kane family, from her family to her upbringing. I wonder what your motherâinâlaw likes about her.â
âI heard she and her mother got into the car accident together. The passenger seat got the most damage, but she was completely unscathed even though she was in the passenger seat. On the other hand, her mother was left comatose. Tell me, isnât that sinister?â
