Chapter 940
Mr. Kane Got Blacklisted
Keegan did not say anything. Instead, he lifted his glass and chugged it down again.
Shelley poured him another glass after they finished their drinks. âIâm going to tell you a secret about Stella. Can I trust you on this?â
Keegan put on a serious look and said in a deep voice. âIâm all ears.â
Shelley looked at Stella, who was playing with the children, and said softly,â Stella is not Raineeâs biological daughter. Sheâs not an illegitimate child.â
Keegan paused, and his expression looked even more serious. âHow did you know that?â
Shelley bowed her head down. âI accompanied Rainee to do the paternity test. I promised Rainee that Iâd bring this secret to my grave. However, sheâs not here anymore, and Stella is the only person sheâd ever care about.
âThereâs only so much I can do as a partner that she trusts. I couldnât help her much with her marriage or work. I know there are a lot of rules in a wealthy family like yours, and everybody takes social status very seriously. Iâm only telling you this because I donât want you to have a gap with her just because she did not come from a legitimate family. Even if you canât make it to the end for her, I donât wish to see this as why you guys break up because thatâs just not the truth.â
Keegan could not process what was happening.
âStella has all the documents to prove that sheâs the daughter of Rainee. How is this possible?â
Then, he asked in a low voice, âWho are her biological parents then?â
Shelley shook her head. âI have no idea, as she was mistaken as someone elseâs daughter in the maternity ward. Raineeâs health deteriorated after giving birth to her child, making it almost impossible to be pregnant again. Nevertheless, she did everything she could to raise Stella, so she did not want to give her up even after finding out the truth.
âEven though they were not blood-related, their feelings for each other were genuine. She just couldnât find herself leaving the child that she had raised. Also, she had no clue where her own child was. She couldnât accept that she would be away from Stella and her biological daughter, so she didnât look for her real parents. However, she did try to find her biological daughter, but to no avail.â
Keegan massaged his temple as the alcohol started kicking in. He had a lot of questions for Shelley, but he just could not think straight.
Then, Shelley continued, âDonât tell Stella about this. Itâll only worsen if she still canât find her after knowing the truth.â
For some reason, Keegan reminded himself of how devastated Stella looked during Raineeâs funeral, and he felt a stinging sensation in his heart. âOkay,â he said after keeping quiet for a while.
Stella only left the children after Shelley left and sat beside Keegan. âWhat were you talking about with Ms. Cooke?â
Keeganâs forehead rested on his palm while propping his elbow on the table. He opened his eyes and looked at Stella when he heard her voice.
Stella had so much fun with the children that her cheeks looked so pinkish, and her eyes sparkled.
Keegan stroked Stellaâs hair. âMs. Cooke said youâre bad-tempered and told me to accept you for who you are.â
Stella paused. âI think she was saying the opposite.â
Keegan smiled and rested his chin on her shoulder. âPlease accept me for who I am, then.â
Stella said, âAm I not accepting enough? Iâm always the one who cleans up your mess whenever you get drunk.â
Then, she handed him a cup of water. âYou know you have low tolerance, yet you always drink so much. Does that mouth of yours only know how to insult other people but not reject them?â
Keegan took the water. Then, he smiled and said in a low voice, âIâm sorry, Mrs. Kane.â
Stella gazed at him. âDonât push your luck.â
Keegan was exhausted. He took a sip of the water and continued to lay on her shoulder. Then, he suddenly spoke after hearing what Stella said. âThe doctor said we should at least do the deed twice weekly. Itâs been more than a week since we last did it.â
Stella kept quiet.
