Celeste and Betty stayed with Martha for about half an hour before Trevor said, âIâm stepping out for a bit.â
During that time, Trevor had mostly remained a silent observer, barely speaking.
Hearing this, Martha scoffed, âJust go then.â
Trevor left the hospital room. But once he was gone, he didnât return for over half an hour.
Earlier, Samantha had been there, making sure the fruit, pastries, and tea were all well taken care of.
After Samantha stepped away for a moment, Celeste noticed that Bettyâs tea had gone cold. So, she picked up the small teapot and went over to the table, intending to brew a fresh pot of tea.
Seeing Celeste personally handling the tea, Martha suddenly thought of Trevor.
She frowned and muttered, âTrevor really is something⦠I donât know what heâs off doing, but heâs been gone for so long.â
When Trevor had said he was stepping out, Celeste didnât pay much attention to it. But hearing Marthaâs complaint, she suddenly recalled that Wynn was still downstairs.
Trevor had most likely gone down to keep Wynn company so she wouldnât get bored. Still, he had been gone for over half an hourâthat was quite some dedication. 1
After brewing the tea, Celeste poured fresh cups for herself, Betty, and Martha.
Just as she set down the teapot, the door swung open, and Trevor walked in.
Martha looked at him and huffed, âI thought you werenât coming back.â
Trevor only smiled without replying.
Martha didnât press the matter and instead turned to Celeste with a warm smile. âCel still makes the best tea.â
Trevor remained uninvolved in their conversation. However, when their teapot ran empty, he took note of Marthaâs request and came over to refill their cups.
Another half hour passed, and the sky gradually darkened.
Celeste and Betty decided it was time to leave.
Martha instructed Trevor to have dinner with them. At this, Trevor seemed slightly hesitant.
But before he could say anything, Celeste and Betty had already declined. âThereâs no need to trouble yourself. Thereâs soup waiting for us at homeâweâll just eat there.â
They were telling the truth. But aside from that, they genuinely had no interest in having dinner with Trevor.
Martha probably sensed this as well, so she didnât insist. Instead, she simply told Trevor to escort them downstairs.
Trevor agreed and then turned back to Martha. âI have some matters to take care of. Iâll come by again tomorrow.â
âGo, go. Come if you want to, I donât care.â
Despite her words, ever since her fall, Trevor had been visiting the hospital quite frequently. In truth, she was already quite satisfied with his attitude.

Her dissatisfaction lay solely in his attitude toward Celeste. She could tell that he was still determined to go through with the divorce.
Trevor accompanied Celeste and Betty downstairs.
Just as they stepped out of the elevator, they ran into Tucker, who was standing outside waiting for the next lift. He had a backpack slung over her shoulders.
Upon seeing them, he immediately greeted them. âTrev, Celeste, Madam Klein.â
Celeste and Betty nodded in acknowledgment.
Tucker then asked, âAre you going to dinner?â
Before Celeste could respond, Trevor cut in with a question of his own. âWhy arenât you in class yet?â
âIâm going to check on Grandma for a bit, then Iâll head to class.â
âGo on, then.â
âOkay.â
Tucker stepped into the elevator, and Celeste and Betty exited the hospital.
At the entrance, Celeste turned to Trevor and said, âYou donât have to see us off.â
Trevor didnât insist. âAlright.â
