Chapter 104
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 104:
A knot formed in Ericâs throat as he observed her rosy cheeks.
Hadley must be intoxicated.
That was the only explanation for why she would refer to him in such an endearing way, reminiscent of when she had first become part of the Flynn household.
Even while drunk, Hadleyâs recognition of Eric was clear.
Feeling a strange surge of warmth, Eric extended his hand to her, his voice deep and resonant. âWhy did you have to drink so much? Letâs get you up.â
âNo!â Hadley exclaimed as Eric reached out. She backed away, her expression wary.
âDonât touch me!â she insisted, shaking her head emphatically.
âHey,â Marshall intervened, laughing lightly. âLooks like Hadleyâs still sharp, even a bit tipsy. Sheâs keeping her boundaries clear.â
Ericâs expression darkened. âDonât sleep on the couch. Use the bed.â
âNo, no!â Hadleyâs eyes flew open as she protested. âIâll stay on the couch. I donât want to disturb your bed.â
His frown deepened, his tone becoming stern. âDo you really think Iâm that fussy?â
What harm could she do to his bed?
âIndeed!â Hadley confirmed, nodding earnestly. âOthers might not see it, but I know how much you dislike having me around.â
âHadleyâ¦â Ericâs voice softened.
Chuckling lightly, Hadley nestled deeper into the sofa, her eyelids drooping again. âHere is fine for me,â she whispered.
âHadley?â Eric persisted, trying to keep her awake. âStay up. Letâs talk.â
âToo noisy!â Hadley complained, brushing him off with a hand wave. âI just need some sleep.â
Was she irritated with him?

Eric shook his head, a half-smile creeping onto his face. âWhatâs the use of arguing with a drunk?â he pondered. âAre you really going to sleep without even showering?â
âA shower?â
Hadleyâs mind was foggy, her thoughts slow to connect. Abruptly, she leaned forward, closing the distance between her and Eric. âDo I smell bad?â she asked, almost nose to nose with Eric.
Ericâs pulse quickened. What was she doing so close? He recoiled quickly, his face hardening. âPlease, keep your distance and speak properly!â
Unaware of Ericâs discomfort, Hadley pulled at her shirtâs collar. âGo on, smell. Iâm not offensive, am I?â
Reluctantly, Eric conceded with a resigned sigh. âAlright, alright. Youâ¦â
âSmell fine. Actually, you smell quite nice.â
Hadleyâs laughter rang out, her mood evidently lifted. âSee? Iâm as fresh as a daisy, no shower needed!â
She gestured towards Eric, her voice slurring slightly. âNight-night, Eric.â The tie from Ericâs earlier attempt to guide her still dangled from her wrist.
Eric found himself at a loss for words, managing only a stuttered, âG-goodnight,â as he watched her.
Before she knew it, Hadley had drifted into a deep sleep on the sofa. Eric glanced at her peaceful, slightly smiling face and couldnât help but let a small smile form on his own lips.
