Chapter 106
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 106:
Could it be that Eric was trying to avoid any deeper involvement with Hadley? Maybe he feared she might cling to him again if the truth came out.
âSure thing,â Marshall eventually gave in, deciding to support Ericâs strange charade.
âNo big deal,â Marshall said smoothly, picking up where Hadley left off. âI appreciate the gesture, Hadley.â
âActually,â Hadley added, suddenly recalling another detail.
She extended her hand, presenting a neatly folded tie. âI also wanted to return this to you.â
Marshall looked at the tie, his smile widening as he accepted it.
âI took care to wash it, used the hotelâs hairdryer to dry it, and even ironed it out. It should be just like new,â Hadley explained, ensuring everything was returned in perfect condition.
âCool,â Marshall acknowledged with a nod. âYou always handle things well, Hadley.â
âItâs no big deal,â Hadley responded casually, adding a shrug. âLooks like youâve got a lot on your plate. I wonât keep you.â
Marshall glanced at Eric briefly before asking Hadley, âDo you need me to arrange a ride for you?â Eric remained impassive.
âNo need!â Hadley quickly dismissed the offer. âIâll catch the bus. Thanks anyway! See you around!â
With a quick turn, she started walking away.
âStay safe on your way!â Marshall called after her.
âWill do!â
After she had left, Marshall turned to face Eric.
âWhy the insistence on keeping her at armâs length? Afraid sheâll get too attached again?â
Eric, caught off guard by the comment, blinked. He wasnât really worried about that; he was more annoyed that Hadley seemed to be feigning ignorance.

Playing along with Marshallâs assumption, Eric responded, âExactly.â
Marshall chuckled, shaking his head.
âMan, relax. Sheâs not chasing you anymore. Did you notice how effortlessly cool she was just now? People move on. Her crush on you is old news. We havenât been a part of her life for years. Out of sight, out of mind, right? Even the deepest infatuation fades away eventually.â He chuckled heartily.
âWho knows, she might have found someone new in Blathe, someone exotic!â
âSure,â Eric responded, his expression unreadable, his voice devoid of enthusiasm. âThat would be ideal.â
Yet, a sharp look flashed briefly in Ericâs eyes, revealing a flicker of something deeper.
Snatching the tie from Marshall, Eric approached a nearby trash can and tossed it in without a second glance.
âThe day I get tangled with her again is the day I admit Iâm a fool,â Eric muttered darkly to himself.
Later that evening, Hadley was at Galant.
The Dance-Off Championship was in full swing, attracting huge crowds, much to Lennonâs delight.
