Chapter 116
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 116:
âHadley.â Nyla reached out, grasping her hand, tears streaking her face. âWhy didnât you tell me what youâve been going through?â She thrust Hadleyâs phone toward her, her voice wobbling. âCristian has been calling nonstop about the divorce papers!â
A chill ran through Hadley, her dread evident.
Eric, puzzled and anxious, arrived swiftly. âGrandma, whatâs the emergency?â
He was still piecing together the situation.
Ericâs expression shifted to one of unease as he observed Nyla, who appeared unharmed but visibly upset, and Hadley, who stood silent and tense.
Nylaâs voice cut through the air, sharp and commanding. âEric, come here now!â
âUnderstood.â
The urgency in his grandmotherâs voice was something Eric couldnât overlook, prompting him to drop all his plans and rush to her side.
âGrandmaâ¦â Eric tried to speak as he approached. But no sooner had he come close than a sharp slap landed across his face, taking him completely by surprise.
It was Nyla who had struck him, her expression stern.
âGrandma?â Eric, bewildered and rubbing his cheek, stared at Nyla. âWhy did you hit me?â
âYou brat! Thatâs why!â
Nylaâs stern expression was one Eric hadnât seen in years, giving him an uneasy feeling. âYou think you can just do whatever you want now, Mr. Flynn?â
âGrandma, I donât understand. Whatâs the issue?â
Eric was genuinely confused. Nyla had stepped back from the companyâs daily operations and left household decisions to Linda long ago.
âGrandma, could you clarify what you meanâ¦â
Then, realization hit Eric. His gaze quickly shifted to Hadley, who was standing there, conspicuously silent, deliberately avoiding eye contact.
Hadley kept her eyes downcast, unwilling to meet Ericâs gaze.
âHadley, is it you?â Eric snapped, his voice growing harsher.
âStop right there!â Nyla interjected sharply, her voice booming like a sudden storm. âHow dare you speak to Hadley that way? Youâre the one who pushed her away. How is this her fault?â
The truth was now apparent.
Ericâs features stiffened with the unfolding reality. He fixed a hard stare on Hadley. âWhat happened to the agreement we had? You promised me, and now youâre going behind my back? Bringing complaints to Grandma?â
Nyla was already aware of the situation, so Eric saw no point in continuing to conceal it.
Hadley tried to speak, but the words failed her.
âWhat can I even say?â Hadley wondered silently.
It was never her intention for Nyla to discover things this way. Leaving her phone unattended had been a careless mistake, but she really should have been more careful and kept her phone with her.
âIâm sorry,â Hadley said softly, her head bowing.
