Chapter 168
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 168:
âAre you sure about this?â
From what heâd seen, she was making a move on Duran. But getting involved with a guy like that? That wasnât something she could just walk away from.
Hadley didnât answer directly. Instead, she tilted her head slightly.
âWhat do you think of him?â
âWhat do I think?â Lennon sighed, cutting to the chase. âHeâs a bit too old for you, donât you think?â
Too old was putting it lightly. Duran was old enough to be Hadleyâs father. But Lennon figured she already knew that.
Hadley shook her head. âThatâs not what I meant,â she said, her voice steady. âI mean, do you think itâs possible?â
âPossible?â
Was she asking if she could actually be Duranâs lover?
Even Lennon paused, thrown off by the question.
In his gut, he knew there was no âpossibleâ when it came to something like this. But he also knew that everyone who took that route had their reasons.
When Hadley first started at the nightclub, Lennon could tell she was in a tight spot. She needed money, and fast.
So, she went along with his arrangements without a word of complaint.
But there was a big difference between featuring Hadley to draw in customers and pushing her toward one of them. That was a line Lennon never expected her to cross.
He paused, weighing the optionsâDuran versus Eric.
âDuran might not have Ericâs deep pockets, but heâs got connections. You get what I mean?â
âYes.â Hadley nodded, her gaze steady. âI get it.â
âSo, sticking with Duran? Youâd have it easy,â Lennon continued. âAnd yeah, heâs older, but heâs got no strings attached.â
âNo strings attached?â

âDivorced.â Lennon grinned. âI heard it was his wife who pulled the plug. The reason, though, works in your favor.â
That was certainly a plus. No wife meant fewer complications, even if the whole situation still felt off to Hadley.
âGot it.â
Hadley felt the same. âIâll need your help with the arrangements, Mr. Lewis.â
But Lennon still hesitated, his unease creeping in. âHadley, are you sure you donât want to think this through? Or maybe give it a little more time?â
Maybe Eric would come back for her? Or what if someone else, someone better suited to her, came along?
âNo.â Hadley shook her head, resolute. âDuranâs a solid option. Iâm the one reaching here.â
As a dancer barely getting by, could she really afford to be selective?
Time was running out. Joyâs surgery was going to cost five hundred thousand dollars, and Hadley needed to come up with that amount quickly.
Lennon exhaled slowly, a flicker of sympathy crossing his face.
âAlright, if youâre sure about this. Iâll handle it. Donât worry.â
Hadley went to visit Nyla.
They relaxed in the sun for a while before Hadley ushered her back inside for some refreshments.
