Chapter 169
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 169:
Nyla sampled a treat and smiled. âThis almond puddingâs really good. Try it, Hadley.â
âAlright,â Hadley replied, though she wasnât hungry. Still, she took a small bite. âItâs good.â
Hadley hesitated, her thoughts swirling, before she spoke.
âNyla, I want to get the divorce finalized soon.â
Nyla froze, her eyes narrowing. âWhatâs going on, Hadley? This came out of nowhere.â
âNyla.â Hadley set her spoon down and dabbed her mouth with a napkin.
âThe divorce will happen sooner or later. And I just want it sooner. Please, just agree.â
âThen tell me why, Hadley. If Eric can wait, why canât you?â
âNyla.â Hadley took a steadying breath. âYou always said that as long as Iâm happy, thatâs what matters. But while Iâm still legally Ericâs wife, I canât move on. I canât start fresh.â
âWhat do you mean?â
Hadley struggled to find the right words.
She was about to become Duranâs mistress, but even in that role, she couldnât stay married.
That was why getting the divorce done was so urgent.
She clenched her jaw, swallowing her guilt, and lied. âI have someone I love.â
Just then, the door opened, and someone walked in.
Eric slowed his steps, drawing closer without making a sound, careful not to alert anyone in the room.
âWho is it?â Nyla asked, her voice tight with concern as she gripped Hadleyâs hand. âIs it someone I know? Can I trust him?â
Hadley hesitated, choosing her words carefully. âHeâs experienced, dependable⦠and the best part is, he really cares about me. Heâll take good care of me.â
Nyla went silent, processing what Hadley had said.
Everything Hadley mentioned was what Eric had never given her.
Nyla sighed softly. âSounds good, then.â

âYes.â Hadley nodded, her voice quieter. âNyla, please do this for me. If you donât, I wonât be able to face him while Iâm still legally another manâs wife.â
âHadleyâ¦â Nyla hesitated, her voice laced with reluctance. âDoes Eric really have no chance at all?â
âNyla?â
Hadley found the question almost laughable.
âHe doesnât need one. In fact, if anything, our divorce will only be a relief for him.â
It was clear nowâthere was no turning back.
Nyla finally nodded. âAlright, since youâve found where you truly belong, we canât keep holding you back.â
âThank you,â Hadley said, a touch of joy in her voice.
âEric.â Nyla glanced at her grandson, who had quietly approached. She sighed. âYou heard what Hadley said.â
Hadley jumped, startled. She had been facing away from the door and only now noticed him standing there.
Quickly, she stood and nodded politely toward Eric.
âYes,â Eric replied with a casual shrug.
âGood.â Nyla sighed. She then shot Eric a glare, frustration mixed with helplessness. âMake time to finalize the divorce with Hadley soon.â
