Chapter 180
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 180:
Her gaze was intense and unwavering, her voice trembling with fury. âItâs been four years since we separated! Our marriage has been over for ages! We are no longer husband and wife!â
âYouââ
Eric was momentarily stunned, his anger boiling over.
Was she really this upset about a ring?
His expression hardened. âWhatâs your plan, then? Looking for a new husband? Duran Murray? Thatâs laughable.â
His voice was frigid. âHe didnât even dare to acknowledge your relationship when I asked him. Do you honestly believe heâs going to marry you? Youâre living in a fantasy!â
âIâm aware heâs not going to marry me,â Hadley said, her chin held high, her demeanor fearless.
Eric halted, visibly taken aback. âYou know this and youâre still with him?â he asked, his tone lowering in disbelief. âHadley, have you lost your mind? Youâre young, yet youâre content to be just another manâs mistress?â
âWhatâs wrong with that?â replied Hadley, her look one of cool detachment.
Eric scoffed. âWhatâs wrong? Heâll never marry you. You have no security. At any moment, he could cast you aside. Youâre deluding yourself.â
âAnd if he does marry me, what security would that give me?â Hadley asked, a hint of sarcasm in her laughter.
Her scornful eyes swept over him. âEric, donât be absurd. I was once married, remember? And tell me, what âsecurityâ did that marriage provide?â
Eric caught his breath, struck silent.
Hadley continued, her tone incisive. âI was a bride for just two months, and how often was my husband even present? Then he banished me abroad. For four years. Four, Eric!â
Her voice escalated, her words piercing him sharply. âSo where was this fabled âsecurityâ then? Explain it to me!â
Eric opened his mouth to respond, yet no sound emerged.
Bathed in the dim streetlight, his face appeared almost ghostly.
Indeed, he was the one responsible.
With his teeth gritted, Eric retorted harshly, âAnd who caused all that? You brought it upon yourself. It wasnât my doing!â
Hadley responded with a cold, mocking laugh.
âYouâre correct,â she said, her tone airy and detached. âIf you despise me so much, why concern yourself with my actions?â
What?
Ericâs anger burned hotter, his eyes flashing as he tried to process Hadleyâs defiance.
She actually thought he was overstepping? It was absurd. People always came to him for help. No one had ever dared speak to him this way before.
âHadley, youââ
âGo!â Hadley snapped, cutting him off, her voice laced with frustration. She had no time for this. The ring. The one Eric had carelessly tossed away, a symbol of Duranâs promise. She had to find it, and fast.
