Chapter 196
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 196:
Eric chose to bear this hope and potential heartache alone until there was undeniable proof of Ernestâs recovery. Should Ernest awaken, it would be a moment for collective joy. But if not, the weight of the disappointment would rest solely on Ericâs shoulders.
Nyla was making a steady recovery following her operation. Over recent days, she had been preparing to leave the healthcare facility. Looking ahead, her recovery would be better supported at home, especially given the resources at the Flynn familyâs disposal, which surpassed any facilityâs capabilities.
On Nylaâs release day, Hadley paid her a visit.
âHadley,â Nylaâs face brightened, and she grasped Hadleyâs hand warmly. âYouâre always the first to show up, such a dear.â
At that moment, Eric swung the door open and stepped in. Catching sight of Hadley, a spark of joy flashed in his eyes, and his voice betrayed a cheerful note.
With a playful raise of his eyebrow, he jokingly said, âSo, my nights here count for nothing, Grandma?â
âStop fishing for compliments,â Nyla replied, patting Hadleyâs hand. âHadley is far more considerate than you. You just stand there like youâre barely even present.â
Eric chuckled. âAlright, Hadley wins hands down.â
âThatâs right.â Nyla drew Hadley in closer, making her intentions clear. âHadley, youâre staying at my place for the next few days.â Her statement was decisive, leaving no room for debate.
Caught off guard, Hadley faltered. âNyla, this⦠doesnât seem right, does it?â
With the current state of her relationship with Eric, moving into the Flynn residence felt inappropriate and questionable.
âWhy wouldnât that be right?â
Nylaâs gaze hardened slightly. âDoes the fact that you and Eric arenât together mean you stop caring about me as well?â
âThatâs not it at all,â Hadley quickly shook her head.

âThen do as I said.â
Nylaâs expression softened. âYou are like my own beloved granddaughter, and you always will be, no matter what. Iâve just been discharged, so is it too much to ask for your company for a few days?â
At that, Hadley found it hard to decline.
To bolster Nylaâs request, Eric added his persuasion, âHadley, please agree. Linda is away, and Grandma could really use the company.â It would seem quite unkind to decline now.
Left with little option, Hadley conceded. âOkay, Iâll stay for a bit.â
âWonderful.â Nyla expressed her approval, gently patting Hadleyâs hand and caressing her hair. âYouâre such a sweetheart.â
Given her upcoming stay, Hadley needed to gather some belongings from her apartment. Nyla asked Eric to ensure she returned safely to the Flynn Mansion.
Eric would have volunteered regardless of Nylaâs suggestion. Once at West Twelfth Alley, Hadley quickly packed her essentials, and they set off for the Flynn Mansion.
During the drive, Hadley suddenly remembered to ask, âBy the way, do you know when Linda will be back?â
âIn a couple of days. What makes you ask?â
