Chapter 211
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 211:
Hadley fought back tears, trying to maintain her composure. âThank you, Joy⦠thank you, my sweetheart.â
âYou donât need to thank me, Mommy,â Joy explained with a seriousness beyond her years. âIf there was no Mommy, there would be no Joy!â
At that moment, Hadley couldnât hold back any longer. Tears streamed down her cheeks as emotion overwhelmed her.
âOh, my little one⦠my dearâ¦â
Joy could hear the distress in her voice. âMommy, please donât cry! Joy loves Mommy so much!â
Choking back tears, Hadley managed to say, âMommy loves you more, my baby.â
âMommyâ¦â Joyâs plaintive whimper was heart-wrenching. âI miss you so much. When are you coming to pick me up?â
Hadley paused, feeling a deep ache in her heart. She wasnât financially ready yet to bring her daughter home.
âVery soon,â she promised, her voice gentle but firm. âPlease be a good girl, listen to Dr. Williams and Auntie Colleen. Mommy is doing everything she can, and Iâll be there to get you before you know it.â
Joy sounded a bit downcast, but her innate good nature shone through. âOkay! Iâll be good. I promise! Now Iâm giving the phone to Auntie Colleen.â
âThank you, sweetheart. I love you.â
There was a slight rustling noise, and then a different voice came through. âHadley.â
Colleen was now on the line.
âColleen⦠thank you so much,â Hadley said, her voice laden with gratitude.
She knew without askingâColleen had set up this call.
Joy was still too young and frail, hardly old enough to remember her own birthday, let alone her motherâs. She wouldnât have known about today without help.

âWhat are you thanking me for? Thereâs no need for formalities. Arenât we friends?â Colleen responded lightly before shifting the conversation. âHey, regarding the funds for Joyâs surgery, do you have everything covered?â
Upon hearing that, Hadley fell silent.
With a tone of displeasure, Colleen exclaimed, âI canât believe youâd keep something this important from me! If I hadnât pushed Mathias, would you have ever told me?â
Hadley stumbled over her words, feeling remorseful. âIâm sorry. It wasnât my intention to keep it from you.â
âBut you did!â
Colleen understood Hadley all too well. Hadley definitely didnât have the money, yet she still refrained from asking for help.
Frustrated, Colleen asked, âDonât you see me as a friend?â
âThatâs not the case,â Hadley responded hastily. âItâs exactly because you are my friend that I find it hard to ask for help.â
Colleen had already been so generous. Hadley didnât want to take advantage of their friendship and keep burdening her. The thought of continually asking for more was simply unbearable. âColleen, Iâm already in your debt more than I can say.â
