Chapter 213
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 213:
What was he doing here?
Denver quickly crossed the street toward her. âJust got off work? Let me drive you home,â he said as he approached.
Hadley hesitated. âThanks, but Iâll just grab a taxi.â
Denver persisted. âDo you often take a cab home?â
Hadley nodded. âYes, I can handle itââ
âLet me give you a ride,â Denver suggested, gesturing toward his car. âItâs late, and now that Iâve seen you, I canât in good conscience let you travel alone.â
Noticing Hadley hesitating, Denver playfully added, âMiss Pearson, my family is well-regarded, and Iâm a gentleman myself. Youâre safe with me, I assure you.â
Amused by his playful words, Hadley finally gave in. âOkay, I accept your offer. Thanks for the lift.â
âItâs absolutely no troubleâhappy to do it.â
Once they were in the car, Denver drove toward Flynn Mansion. During the ride, Hadley asked, âI didnât catch it earlier during my performanceâwere you out tonight with friends?â
âNot exactly friends,â Denver replied, shaking his head. âI was accompanying some colleagues from work.â
Eager to clarify, he explained, âIt was just a networking event. Srixby has its quirksâbusiness often unfolds in recreational settings. Being freshly back in town, Iâm still getting used to the pace here.â
âMm,â Hadley responded, smiling understandingly.
Though she didnât know much about business, Hadley had a hunch. âPerhaps itâs simply a matter of different cultural norms. Blathe and Srixby each have their unique appeal.â
This reference to Blathe sparked a lively conversation, and they chatted comfortably for the remainder of the journey.
Upon arrival at Flynn Mansion, Denver exited the car first and held the passenger door open for Hadley. âHere we are,â he said.

âThank you,â Hadley replied as she stepped out.
Denver pointed towards the mansion, noting the time. âItâs late, so Iâll stay out here. I donât want to wake Mrs. Flynn.â
âAlright thenâ¦â Hadley waved. âIâll go in then. Thanks again for the ride.â
âAnytime,â Denver replied, smiling as he watched her enter the mansion before returning to his car.
Hadley got back before 10 PM tonight, which wasnât particularly late. At this hour, Nyla was probably already in bed. Hadley tiptoed through the living room, trying to be as silent as possible.
âHadley, is that you?â
Nylaâs voice carried through the silence.
Hadley stopped momentarily, then responded, âYes, Nyla. Iâm here.â
âPerfect timing! Come over here.â
âOkay.â
As Hadley drew near, she found Nyla up, enjoying some late-night snacks. To her surprise, Eric was there too, sitting opposite Nyla. âHadley, join us,â Nyla said warmly. âHave some soup to warm you up.â
