Chapter 214

Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now

Chapter 214:

Then, giving Eric a meaningful look, she instructed, “What are you waiting for? Eric, go get Hadley some soup.”

“Got it.”

Eric rose without a word to Hadley and walked toward the kitchen.

Hadley consciously avoided looking his way, keeping her focus straight ahead. She settled next to Nyla, placing her hands politely on her lap. “It’s late. I thought you’d be asleep by now.”

Nyla chuckled softly, her eyes twinkling mischievously. “If I went to bed too early, I’d miss all the excitement, wouldn’t I?”

Hadley, puzzled, murmured, “What excitement?”

“Hmm?”

With a playful smile, Nyla set aside her bowl and gently took Hadley’s hand. “Still keeping things from me?” she chided lightly. “Tell me, who was the young man who dropped you off earlier?”

After a brief pause, Hadley answered, “Oh, that was Denver.”

Knowing that the Flynn residence was equipped with security cameras, Hadley wasn’t surprised that Nyla knew. However, the fact that Nyla was probing made her feel slightly uncomfortable.

“Yes, that’s him,” Nyla said, smiling knowingly. “What’s your impression of him? Do you find him agreeable?”

“What are you implying?”

Shock registered on Hadley’s face at Nyla’s words. Could she be implying what Hadley suspected? “No… Surely, that’s not possible, is it?” Hadley pondered.

“Nyla?”

With a nervous gulp, Hadley hesitated before asking, “What are you trying to say?”

Nyla patted Hadley’s hand, offering a warm smile. “What do you think, my dear? I mean to ask if you like Denver.”

Noticing Hadley’s continued confusion, Nyla clarified, “Like the way you once felt for Eric.”

“Wait,” Hadley interjected, her confusion deepening. “What’s this about all of a sudden?”

Could it have been prompted by Denver offering her a ride home?

Trying to clarify, Hadley smiled and shook her head dismissively. “There’s absolutely nothing between us, Nyla. We merely ran into each other, and he gave me a lift.”

“Really, that’s it? At your birthday celebration the other day, though, I noticed you and he were interacting quite comfortably.”

An awkward chuckle escaped from Hadley. “You might be reading too much into it. There’s genuinely nothing going on.”

Perceiving Hadley’s modesty, Nyla let out a soft smile. “He seems like a good person, and possibly interested in you. Tell me honestly, do you find him appealing at all?”

“What?” Laughter eluded Hadley now.

Nyla remained serious, her expression reflecting deep contemplation. Confusion marred Hadley’s face as she replied, “I don’t quite understand what you’re getting at.”

Exhaling deeply, Nyla used a napkin to dab at her lips.
