Chapter 214
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 214:
Then, giving Eric a meaningful look, she instructed, âWhat are you waiting for? Eric, go get Hadley some soup.â
âGot it.â
Eric rose without a word to Hadley and walked toward the kitchen.
Hadley consciously avoided looking his way, keeping her focus straight ahead. She settled next to Nyla, placing her hands politely on her lap. âItâs late. I thought youâd be asleep by now.â
Nyla chuckled softly, her eyes twinkling mischievously. âIf I went to bed too early, Iâd miss all the excitement, wouldnât I?â
Hadley, puzzled, murmured, âWhat excitement?â
âHmm?â
With a playful smile, Nyla set aside her bowl and gently took Hadleyâs hand. âStill keeping things from me?â she chided lightly. âTell me, who was the young man who dropped you off earlier?â
After a brief pause, Hadley answered, âOh, that was Denver.â
Knowing that the Flynn residence was equipped with security cameras, Hadley wasnât surprised that Nyla knew. However, the fact that Nyla was probing made her feel slightly uncomfortable.
âYes, thatâs him,â Nyla said, smiling knowingly. âWhatâs your impression of him? Do you find him agreeable?â
âWhat are you implying?â
Shock registered on Hadleyâs face at Nylaâs words. Could she be implying what Hadley suspected? âNo⦠Surely, thatâs not possible, is it?â Hadley pondered.
âNyla?â
With a nervous gulp, Hadley hesitated before asking, âWhat are you trying to say?â
Nyla patted Hadleyâs hand, offering a warm smile. âWhat do you think, my dear? I mean to ask if you like Denver.â

Noticing Hadleyâs continued confusion, Nyla clarified, âLike the way you once felt for Eric.â
âWait,â Hadley interjected, her confusion deepening. âWhatâs this about all of a sudden?â
Could it have been prompted by Denver offering her a ride home?
Trying to clarify, Hadley smiled and shook her head dismissively. âThereâs absolutely nothing between us, Nyla. We merely ran into each other, and he gave me a lift.â
âReally, thatâs it? At your birthday celebration the other day, though, I noticed you and he were interacting quite comfortably.â
An awkward chuckle escaped from Hadley. âYou might be reading too much into it. Thereâs genuinely nothing going on.â
Perceiving Hadleyâs modesty, Nyla let out a soft smile. âHe seems like a good person, and possibly interested in you. Tell me honestly, do you find him appealing at all?â
âWhat?â Laughter eluded Hadley now.
Nyla remained serious, her expression reflecting deep contemplation. Confusion marred Hadleyâs face as she replied, âI donât quite understand what youâre getting at.â
Exhaling deeply, Nyla used a napkin to dab at her lips.
