Chapter 224

Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now

Chapter 224:

“Is there a real possibility that my brother might recover?”

“While I can’t make any promises, the signs we’re seeing suggest a strong potential for improvement.”

Eric found solace in the doctor’s cautious optimism, even if it lacked certainty.

“That’s great to hear,” Eric said with genuine gratitude. “I appreciate everything you’re doing.”

“There’s no need to thank me; I’m simply doing my job.”

After offering those words, the doctor departed from the room.

Eric lingered for a moment longer by Ernest’s side and then whispered gently, “Ernest, if you’re listening, I need to share something else. I want to be with Hadley. You would support that, right?”

Naturally, there was no reply from Ernest.

“Your silence is as good as consent.”

Leaving the hospital, Eric felt an unusual lightness in his step. Later that day, he was due to meet Linda at the airport as she returned to town.

Her flight landed right on time, and soon after Eric’s arrival, Linda emerged from the terminal.

Leading her entourage, Linda’s tall, slender frame was noticeable even behind sunglasses and a mask, attracting glances in the bustling crowd.

Linda had always been striking, a beauty that once drew the attention of both Flynn brothers.

In the end, she had chosen Ernest…

Eric’s thoughts drifted to those distant days as he squinted slightly. “Tired?”

He opened the car door for Linda and cautiously helped her in to avoid any bumps. “Hop in.”

“Thank you,” Linda replied with a tired smile, slipping into the car.

Eric got in after her.

Once inside, Linda removed her sunglasses and mask, exposing a bare, visibly weary face.

Judging by Linda’s tired look, Eric surmised she had been overworking during her shoot.

“Are you okay?” Eric inquired, his voice filled with concern. “Maybe you should consider getting some rest after you get home.”

“I wish I could,” Linda responded, shaking her head. “I have to attend an event tonight. Just drop me off on your way.”

Eric frowned slightly. “Why are you packing your schedule so tightly?”

“It’s just the way things are,” Linda explained with a resigned shrug and a wry smile. “Everyone’s striving to get ahead in this industry.”

“You shouldn’t have to overextend yourself,” Eric said. He then quickly added, “You’re already well-positioned compared to many.” His tone carried a note of protectiveness that didn’t go unnoticed.

Linda paused briefly, offering a faint smile in response.

Eric paused, wondering if he’d said too much.

“Just take care of yourself, okay?” Eric said. “Ernest would hate to see you like this.”
