Chapter 226
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 226:
At that moment, Hadleyâs phone buzzed. She glanced at it and saw a new message from Denver.
âHope you enjoyed the pumpkin soup.â
It was from Denver after all.
Hadleyâs expression shifted to a frown, sensing a hint of unease. Ignoring Denverâs obvious advances and pretending they didnât exist wouldnât be fair to him. However, she wasnât interested in a new relationship anytime soon. No matter his intentions, Hadley was certain nothing could develop between them.
Moreover, if Nyla found out they were communicating, she might push for a match. That was a situation Hadley needed to avoid at all costs.
Ignoring her divorced status, the fact remained that she was a single mother. Hadley wasnât ready to consider marriage soon, especially not with a decent young man with a promising future like Denver.
At that moment, Denver sat at his own table, checking his phone every now and then. Finally, when Hadley responded, his phone screen lit up.
âAre you up for grabbing a bite later? My treat tonight.â
The glow from the screen cast a soft light over Denverâs face, making the sudden burst of joy impossible to miss. His throat bobbed with anticipation as he quickly typed out a reply.
âAbsolutely! Iâll wait for you when youâre done.â
Hadleyâs response came swiftly.
âEleven oâclock. Meet me outside the club.â
Denver felt like he was floating.
âOkay.â
Across the table, Eric tipped back his glass and downed the whiskey in one gulp. He reached for the bottle again, filling his glass to the brim without hesitation.

Marshall arched an eyebrow. âWhy are you drinking like the world is ending? Slow down.â
âIâm fine,â Eric muttered, his face unreadable. âWhere are we heading next? Letâs keep the night rolling.â
To everyoneâs surprise, his mood seemed unusually high tonight, and neither Marshall nor Barrie had a reason to argue.
âFine by me,â Barrie said, already scrolling through his phone. âIâll sort something out.â
âSounds good.â
Denver hesitated before speaking.
âYou guys go ahead. Iâm sitting this one out.â
âHuh?â Marshall gave his younger cousin a perplexed look. âWhy?â
âI have something to do.â
âSomething to do, huh?â Marshall narrowed his eyes. âDidnât you just say you were free all night?â
âI, uhâ¦â Denver scratched the back of his neck. âI got a last-minute⦠date.â
Marshall, who knew Denver better than anyone, threw an arm around his shoulders with a grin. âA date, huh? Judging by that look on your face, Iâm guessing itâs a girl?â
Denver hesitated for just a second before leaping to his feet. âI gotta go. See you guys later!â
