Chapter 235
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 235:
âYou can hold your tongue,â Nyla quipped, brushing him off with a flick of her wrist. âCanât you see Iâm in the midst of a conversation with Denver?â
Denver let out a soft chuckle, rising to his feet with an air of purpose.
âI ought to take my leave. There are matters awaiting my attention.â
âVery well,â Nyla replied, seeing no need to detain him further. They had made remarkable strides today, after all. âDo convey my gratitude to your mother, and take care on your journey home.â
âI shall.â
Denver assured her, his step buoyant as he departed, a quiet elation evident in his demeanor.
And Nyla? Her heart glowed with equal delight.
She turned her attention to Eric, who lingered in the room like a storm cloud. âGo eat your breakfast. What are you loitering about for?â
âGrandma,â Eric muttered, his appetite having vanished entirely.
His brows knitted together so fiercely they might have fused. âYou shouldnât meddle in matchmaking. Theyâre ill-matched, plain and simple.â
âAnd pray tell, why not?â Nyla halted, her gaze sharpening as it pinned Eric in place. âDonât you dare suggest Hadley isnât worthy of Denver. Iâll not hear such nonsense.â
Eric let out a biting, sardonic laugh, the sound dripping with irony.
âGrandma, itâs quite the oppositeâHadley deserves far better.â
Nyla paused abruptly. âWhat exactly do you mean by âfar betterâ?â She scrutinized her grandson, narrowing her eyes. âAre you suggesting⦠youâve found a more suitable match for Hadley? When did you become so involved in Hadleyâs affairs?â
Seemingly reaching a resolution, Nyla gave a decisive nod. âAlright, if you believe thereâs someone more suitable than Denver, Iâm all ears. Convince me.â
âGrandmaâ¦â A slight twitch marked Ericâs temple. It was rare for him to waver, yet he couldnât help feeling slightly embarrassed.
However, the stakes were high, and retreating wasnât in his plans. Giving in now would mean letting Hadley go to someone else, something he wouldnât allow to happen.

He straightened his shoulders and met Nylaâs gaze. âWhat about me?â
Nyla fixed a long, searching look on him, her expression unreadable, as though she was seeing him for the first time.
Time seemed to drag before she finally blinked and whispered, âOh dear⦠I must be growing senile. Have I lost my senses?â How else could she make sense of hearing something so absurd? She turned to leave, calling out to the housekeeper, âKira! Whereâs my medicine? I think Iâm hearing things. I need my pillsâ¦â
âGrandma.â Eric laughed softly and caught her arm. âAt least consider my proposal.â
âNO!â Nyla turned around sharply, dismissing his idea outright.
âWhy not?â Eric looked genuinely puzzled. âHavenât you always hoped weâd end up together?â
Hadnât Nyla been the one to first suggest Eric and Hadley would make a good match?
âDo you really need to ask me why?â Nyla sighed, her disappointment evident as she shook her head. âEric, this isnât the time for games.â
âGames?â
