Chapter 247
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 247:
âJust hear me out first.â Nyla patted Hadleyâs hand, already bracing for the rejection that was sure to come. âItâs⦠Eric.â
Hadley stood frozen, her lips parted in stunned silence.
Of all the things she had braced herself for, Nyla speaking on Ericâs behalf was nowhere on that list.
âAlasâ¦â Nyla let out another weary sigh, the sound carrying the weight of unspoken years. âI know, Hadley. Bringing this up nowâitâs utterly shameless of me. Back then, he was the one who cast you aside. And now, heâs the one reaching out, trying to reclaim what he once threw away.â
Lines of exasperation deepened on her face as she rubbed her temples. That grandson of hersâalways stirring up trouble, always making things difficult for her.
âBut Hadley, he came to me himself. He said he wanted you back, that this time, he intended to do things right. And tell me, as his grandmother, how could I turn him away?â
She watched Hadleyâs expression with careful precision, measuring every flicker of emotion.
âI can tell heâs not playing games this time⦠And Hadley, letâs not pretendâhavenât you carried a torch for him longer than you care to admit? If you were to take him back, wouldnât that mean you finally grasped the very thing youâve been reaching for all this time?â
âNylaâ¦â
Hadleyâs face was blank, devoid of any emotion. She slowly shook her head. âIâm done with Eric.â
Nyla froze, a chill running through her.
Sheâd heard those words before.
The last time, Hadley had come to the sanatorium, saying the same thingâpleading for Nyla to support her decision to divorce.

Back then, Nyla had thought Hadley was holding back, burdened by things she couldnât voice.
âAre you scared, Hadley?â Nyla asked softly. âScared heâll slip back into his old habits? That heâll push you away again?â
She exhaled a soft, steady breath before adding, âIt wonât happen. This timeâs different. Itâs not me asking for itâEricâs the one making the choice. You know how he is. Once heâs set on something, nothing can sway him. If he promises something, you can count on him to follow through.â
Hadley believed that with every part of her.
When his brother had the accident, Eric had been there, unwavering by his hospital bed, swearing that from then on, Linda would be his responsibility.
And he had kept that vow, without fail.
But even so, Hadley couldnât bring herself to agree. âThatâs not my concern.â
âThen what is?â
Hadley managed a small, bitter smile. Sheâd already said this before, so all she could do was repeat herself again. âI just⦠I donât love him anymore.â
Nyla was speechless, caught off guard for a moment.
If Hadley had only said it once or twice, Nyla might have written it off as pride or the fear of being hurt again.
