Chapter 248
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 248:
But this time, there was no denying it.
Eric had made his position clearâhe was retracting the divorce. If Hadley still cared for him, sheâd have jumped at the chance to fix things, not shut him out completely.
âYouâ¦â Nyla hesitated, her words hanging in the air. âHadley, are you really sure?â
âYeah,â Hadley said, nodding firmly. âIâm sure.â
âHow can you say that?â Nylaâs voice trembled with confusion. âYouâve loved him since you were fifteen.â
Back then, all she ever talked about was Eric. The whole Flynn family knew how much she adored him.
âI did,â Hadley replied, a wistful smile crossing her face as she shook her head. âBut Nyla, even the most intense love⦠it fades during those four years, eventually.â
Nylaâs chest tightened, caught off guard.
Hadleyâs voice was steady, almost detached. âLooking back, Iâm not even sure I ever loved him, not the way I thought I did.â
âWhat?â Nylaâs words stumbled out, her disbelief clear.
âI was too young to understand what love really meant,â Hadley whispered, her gaze distant. âYou always talked about how you wanted me to be your granddaughter-in-law. I convinced myself that was enough to make me love him.â
âHadleyâ¦â Nylaâs face drained of color.
Hadley wasnât just rejecting Ericâshe was erasing every trace of love sheâd ever felt for him.
âSo, Nyla.â Hadley exhaled deeply, pressing her lips together as if searching for the right words. âDivorce is the only option for me. Itâs the only choice that makes sense.â
In that moment, Nyla realized there was really no more room for argument.
She sighed, her shoulders slumping in resignation. âI understand.â With a tender motion, she reached up and gently tucked a loose strand of Hadleyâs hair behind her ear. âDonât worry. I may have spoken for him today, but thatâs where I draw the line.â
Hadley blinked, caught off guard, her gaze fixed on Nyla in stunned silence.

âWhatâs with that expression?â Nyla laughed softly, playfully pinching Hadleyâs cheek. âI meant it. I want you to have a good lifeâa happy, fulfilling one.â
Hadley felt a lump in her throat, her nose tingling with emotion. âThank you, Nyla.â
âAh, you silly girl. Whatâs there to thank me for?â
Nyla let go of her hand, exhaling quietly. âWhy donât you head to the kitchen? See if breakfast is ready.â
âAlright.â
Hadley stood and walked toward the kitchen.
The moment Hadley was out of earshot, Nylaâs smile vanished. Her face shifted, hardening with resolve, and her voice dropped to a whisper. âYou can step out now.â
The terrace curtain was pulled back, and Eric stepped into the room. He had been hiding there for a while now.
This had been the planâNyla would speak to Hadley. But sheâd only agreed to speak on his behalf once. After that, the rest was on him.
